IMO, the Pelicans are really asking too much already for Davis. If an LAL package already included Kuzma, Ingram, Ball, and 2 first round picks, I would say that is already very acceptable to the Pelicans, from an objective point of view. If they rejected this, my guess is that they are expecting Ainge to give then Tatum, Brown, Rozier, and 4 picks (1st and 2nd rounders), plus some more bench players. I will be terrible shocked if Ainge includes Tatum in any deal for a 1 year rental for Davis. Tatum has already shown great strides and confidence specially in last season's Game 7 ECF loss to the Cavs, with that incredible dunk off LeBron and a mini stare down bump. The guy is the C's future at only age 20. For the sake of the C's peace of mind, I would wish Davis gets traded to some other team now and Tatum will be safe. :) (But maybe not to the Lakers for the sake of Steve and my other friends who are Lakers fans - I do not wish what happened to them with the entry of LeBron happen to the Celtics in the first place. :)

did you read the Lakers offer

The Lakers had agreed to send their entire young core of Lonzo Ball, Kyle Kuzma, Brandon Ingram, Josh Hart and Ivica Zubac to the Pelicans, as well as veteran guard Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, the people said.

The Lakers were also winning to also send the Pelicans two first-round draft picks.

well Phil as they say, "the ball's in your court now"

I can't believe any GM including inge would literally throw out the baby with the bath water and trade all of their rookies plus 1st and 2nd round draft choices

Interesting as nothing new from the Knocks and the Clippers go silent.

I honestly feel if he signed with the Clippers he has the best of both worlds. IOW he will reside in LA so that if he is a rental player nothing changes in terms of where he plays except which locker room of Staples he would hang his clothes.

It would be all too simple at that point to jump ship and move his locker 50 yards away. Having said that what's not to like about LA BUT will the Clippers with AD win a title before a Lakers team with AD and Le Bron. Unlikely

Why would he want to switch locker rooms in LA? He would be THE super star and leader of the Clippers.

Playing with LeBron he would suffer the same fate as Chris Bosch and Kevin Love - a big man with a diminished role and perception as LeBron's water boy.

Even worse, LeBron won't be getting better as age and injuries mount. Picture Kobe's last few years with the Lakers.

Clippers also have a sparkling new arena the team will own on the horizon while the Lakers will continue to rent space at the aging Staples Center from Philip Anschutz and the LA Kings.

Jerry Buss isn't around to pull a rabbit out of the hat for the Lakers any more.

Jerry West may have a trick or two up his sleeve, too....especially since the Clippers have the richest owner in the NBA.

Now, truth be told, if I were the Pelicans I'd wait until the summer when more teams can get involved and hold out for the best deal possible. Celtics have the most ammo.

Still can't help but picture Anthony Davis, Klay Thompson, Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving suiting up for the Clippers. ;)

The Pelicans will not get a better offer from Boston, imo. That kind of an LAL offer to be rejected in indeed outrageous.

Well Steve, now Danny can start to grind the Pelicans now that he knows (he SHOULD know) that the Pelicans will now have a ticking bomb from July 1 to early next season to trade Pelicans or they got nothing and let Davis walk in 2020. Amazing turn of events. Danny should never ever include Tatum for a 1 yr rental of Davis. If Davis was Lew Alcindor in the mid-70s, then I would do it. :D

And I feel the Pelicans made a big mistake in rejecting the offer. IT was an incredible offer that I too cannot believe that Magic presented. Wow.

By the way, I thought I missed WHAT else the Pelicans want from the Lakers aside from the total baby bath or total bus load of players offered by Magic. What else is there from the Lakers that the Pels wanted?

Oh, I just read it - 6-8 draft picks, aside from the whole team bus.

Absolutely and incredible outrageous.

You're absolutely correct in your comment about why would he switch teams. I agree when you say he'd be the Superstar but on a team of much lesser quality players. This conjures up the thought of James Harden the superstar of the Rockets. Scores a ton of points every game but will never win a title for the Rockets.

Sometimes a player has to have the vision to take on a different role rather than having their finger up their butt saying they are a superstar

The first year James was in Miami there were 3 stars fighting to be the superstar and they did terrible. They then won 2 NBA championships

So I agree with you in theory but this is a team sport not a superstar sport

As for Staples I have been there many times and it may be old but sitting there does not give me the feeling at all.

Personally I hope the Lakers are truly done with the Pelicans because IMHO there is no GM that should accede to such demands for a player. It decimates a team. Im shocked what Magic offered but all I can say is " screw LeBron and his agent" Dump him

I am betting Ainge has already convinced the Pelicans GM what he is prepared to offer but for obvious reasons that cannot be revealed. So hopefully we are punting to you Phil

But to say he can be the superstar of the Clippers IMO is a lateral move because he's the Superstar of a team now that is going no where. He will need to learn a new role to win a championship and as much as I'd like to see the Lakers win one the thought of how they might achieve such is fool hardy IMO

The problem is the Pelicans are losing one of the top players in the league.

The draft picks have value but would most likely be in the bottom half of the first round.

The only player the Lakers have with great potential is Kuzma. The rest are likely journeymen.

So, from the Lakers perspective they may feel they are giving up a lot.

From the Pelicans perspective perhaps its not the deal they want.

Looking at it another way, the Pelicans must feel like they have a gun pointed at their heads. You can't blame them for being pissed off about that.

Why should the Pelicans rush to do a deal? Better for them when their are more options on the table.

It just occurred to me now that the reason why Pels are demanding such an outrageous offer is bec they know how much LeBron wants Davis to be in his camp via the Rich Paul media blitz. Pels betting Magic would bow to pressure from LeBron, it's almost like they are demanding a price that is a price 'not to sell'. In short, they got too greedy.

.

Totally agree but IMO the only other team is the Celtics who not only have the players but so also the first round draft choices

IMO Kyrie made the right move to get out from under LeBron. He became the Celtics superstar but Ainge had the where with all to build a team around him. Still a championship is not a certainty with what they have now. The uncertainty for Ainge is that he might gain AD but Irving might play kissy face with LeBron and join the Lakers. Then what will the Celts have......another superstar but maybe not enough

And what kind of a self proclaimed goat will put out a public post to Kyrie to lure him BACK into JOINING his team?

If I were the Pelicans I wouldn't want LA's young core anyway. Much as I like Hart and Kuzma, they already have Randle. Wouldn't they then be suddenly the 2017-2018 Lakers with that trade? That group went nowhere. I'd look for a package that would complement JRue and the magically resurgent Okafor. I think we have to face it. Inn this day and age, the small market teams' only hope to be relevant is through the draft. Maybe they will get lucky and get Barrett from Duke and a top PG like Conley or better yet Kemba. That would be a very respectable starting 5

Walker PG
Holiday SG
Barrett SF
Randle PF
Okafor C

I thinnk the Cs should stay pat and keep Tatum (I am a fan). Hayward will be back to his old ways likely middle of next season and that would bbe a killer wing combo. Kyrie has been killing it lately too.

If I were the Pelicans I would be happy with Rozier, Brown, Horford and picks.

Rozier PG
Holiday SG
Brown SF
Randle/Okafor/Horford C/Fs

Not threatening to the West powerhouses but competitive.
