I think the world's first Audiophile Router is Waversa Wrouter. It was released long time ago.Indeed, fresh in what, AFAIK, is the world's first Audiophile Router! :

As most of the effort in this will actually be in the software / firmware I am less hesitant in sharing a photo months before release, we're aiming for an end of March 2023 release! It fits into the same 9*9*2" / 33 lbs chassis as the Switch, but we may lose a few pounds due to the PCB being around 20% larger. This can actually also serve as a full motherboard which can support CPUs with up to 16 cores (!). @Marcin_gps of JCAT however beat us to the punch by a month or so of announcing the existence of such a thing, however I do call dibs on first Router!
We are on track for week 4 for an initial batch of 100 pieces of both Network card and Switch with the following batches sized at 250 pieces each in 2 week intervals. We are setting up a presale website where both direct customers and dealers / distributors can order to keep things manageable and to ensure we do not over produce and end up with a negative balance. We are not in direct contact with a large part of our customer base so we can use this to create a mailing list to keep customers not following this thread up to speed.

is the thought that both the switch and router be used in series? Or just one vs the other?
what about those of us with routers that we cannot replace for various reasons? For instance I use a pfsense setup for a multiwan load balancer and Tailscale vpn access.
should we just double NAT and stick the Taiko router behind the pfsense?

Well we have a long road ahead of us with regards to possibilities and functionality. I'll list a few initial features:
-We are going to run a hypervisor on it so it can run multiple operating systems.
-One of those virtual machines can run Ubiquity software to manage a whole network of Ubiquity Access Points / Products if so desired (or possibly other brands, we use Ubiquity ourselves)
-Another virtual machine can run streaming preprocessing to improve online streaming performance for Roon
-Yet another virtual machine could run a future part of XDMS
-It can act like a NAS (music storage)
-Split youtube into separate audio and video streams
-All 5 ports can be configured as separate networks
-It can be used to replace your ISP supported router if your ISP supports replacing your router, to that end, and because this is high-end, it runs the highest possible security level, guaranteed safer as your ISP modem/router, a 5 year support maintenance contract with several update options will be included, which can, and will need to be extended to stay safe in such a scenario, after (the cost for this contract is EURO 50 a year), it can also be used to create a separate network in series with your ISP or whatever other router
-Etc etc and whatever else we can come up with, years of fun ahead!
Indeed. Reading up it does not appear to be a full function router, like being able to replace your ISP provided router.
Perhaps also 50 Euro per year for Audio Phychiatric Counseling? We all need it!

“Exciting“ seems like too timid a word to describe what Emile, et al,@Taiko Audio are about to unleash upon the world of audio! For those of us that use an Edgerouter with our ATT setup, will the Taiko router replace or be an addition to the network chain?

I feel the exact opposite. With what we all do, there is no need for counseling. People that don't have the joy that audio or some other cool hobby brings are the ones who need counseling.
You missed the entirety of this...Especially the part where Emile says "Does it sound better yes or no" Priceless! One of the funniest lines I have ever read on WBF... This is called Humor....Tongue In Cheek
The real question is how much better….You can also just ask: "does it sound better, yes or no?"
