If the Sonus Faber had all these attributes that appear to combine the best of several worlds, what are the weaknesses if you are looking for other speakers?
Different approach different tastes.... Rafaellos one of the few speakers i adore and like to try in our showroom the fact the Sonus Faber Fenice wil be replaced doesn't mean there is no satisfaction necessarily....

That's a very diplomatic response but doesn't really answer my question. Could you please give a more informative answer about perceived weaknesses, even if partially that can be a matter of taste as you seem to suggest? Thanks.

The Orgon sounded VERY impressive the one time I heard it in Munich.

I do not owe you a Diplomatic answer no need to... I am not Distributor nor Advocate of Sonus Faber Fenice speakers i own them for around 1.5 year and can leave at least ten yers whit them whit satisfaction i cant call any shortcomings. Alsyvox is just another kind of Fish that i like to taste thats all...

Quite a number of speakers since venturing into hi-end from mid-if.
First real leap brought Avalon Ascents driven by Jadis 200’s; which were preceded by Proac 3, Kef 104’s, EHS Tenors.
Avalon Eidelon powered by a variety of amps.
Genesis 2.5’s followed by Genesis 2. I regret having parted with the 2’s; which I sold due to my ineptitude at tweaking the system, leaving it devoid of taut a bottom end.
Presently, Avalon Times driven by CAT JL-2 Black Path. W/ pair or Rel Carbon subs. Very fine musical dynamic performance, although after hearing ribbon driver designs, the itch for that airy life-like upper frequencies nips at me.

I also drove Avalon Ascent II wit JA 200 on 1998 and then upgraded to Ja 500.

But one audio dealer suggested me to try out Wilson Watt puppy4 and that was biggest mistake.

Let me ask you this way then: What is the difference in overall character between the presentations of music by the Sonus Faber and Alsyvox speakers?

Please let us have your opinion on Raffaellos after you get it.

I was interested in Sonus Faber.

But so far it's line was more suitable for classical music rather than Jazz or Rock music.

Avantgarde Trio with BD design custom matrix BR basstowers

Hello Leif,

What exactly is the "BD design custom matrix BR basstowers" for Trios? What do BD and BR mean? And how does this change the sound from what one gets from the "original", manufacturer-delivered version.

Also, some people have reported that Avantgardes can sound "peaky" or "strident" with certain recordings. Do you happen to know some of the causes for this? Likewise, do you have any ideas what it is about Avantgarde that has that "jump factor" / attack / "aliveness". I haven't experienced an attack like this from any other speaker. Is this all about the very high efficiency, or could Avantgarde be doing something else to enhance that?

Really appreciate your wisdom

Haven't had any new speakers in a long time.

1. Avantgarde Duos circa early 2000's
2. TAD CM-1 (prototype of CR-1) (Recently acquired used for second system) around 2010
3. Quad 63USMonitor with Crosby Mod mid-late '80s
4. Acoustat 2+2 Early 1980's
5. Magnepan MG2167F (predecessor to MG-II) circa 1978
