Taiko Audio SGM Extreme : the Crème de la Crème

I am curious to know if the ROUTER will improve local playback quality, since I never use any streaming services.
My guess is that if the switch does which it does make a difference in the router will also make a difference. I think the big kicker will be the BPS.

Here's a question, I was thinking that the Switch was making a huge difference, which it does for streaming, but playing local files should not have anything to do with the net card and the Switch, correct?

Btw, the local file playback even using Roon is top tier sound. XDMS is better but Roon/files is REALLY GOOD as well.
Local file playback IS improved with the Switch and Network card (and I assume only the Switch by itself). This was confirmed by Emile and is the reason I bought the Switch+Card.

I was not thinking properly, as I was thinking, why not just disconnect the Extreme from the Network, but you need it connected on the same network as the iPad for control.

I guess you could set up a large queue and then disconnect the Extreme from the network.
That does lead to an interesting question: if you control playback some other way (eg USB connected iPad) would it maximize SQ for local file playback? That is, shut down all network connections altogether.

I think I remember way back when someone mentioning that they did disconnect the net input connector when listening to local files.

Sounds kind of crazy but I could see if it made it sound amazing setting up a large queue and then disconnect in and let it play,. Probably not very practical, but like you said, is there a possibility of another method of control. Emile eventually will probably jump in an answer.

Yes. I agree. Wondering if adding the ROUTER with the SWITCH would get more sound quality?

I've posted this before re a very old TV commercial which very much reminds me of Emile ( E F Hutton) and we his listeners

Making good progress, now cuts out at 60 Celcius:

Encouraging. Are you going to try for a setpoint of 80C (176F) or so? At 60C (140F) there might still be temperature protection issues for folks in hotter climates or who, like myself, only utilize A/C on the hottest of days.

And this is why I never stream!
I guess I would stream if it were just playing in the background…

Last night I listened to 44/16 ripped CDs… wow! Quite impressive! There’s certainly no need for a high end CD transport.
Certainly we all vary according to how important certain attributes of our systems are to us, and how they affect our enjoyment of music. And that's fair -- it is (or should be) as much about "my fi" as it is about hi-fi.

I personally don't find the gap between streaming from Qobuz and playing local files so great that I would willingly cut myself off from the world of music that exists out there not in my local storage.

As Christiaan suggests, I do purchase and download music that really touches my soul, but I do it more because streaming services can and do drop content for a variety of reasons and not because I find I have objections about streaming sound quality.

Perhaps if all I had was a choice between Tidal and local files I might feel differently. I do have a preference for Qobuz over Tidal in terms of sound quality, but that may be more because more and more content on Tidal is MQA-processed -- much of which sounds "off" in some way to me -- and not because of streaming in and of itself.

As always, your mileage may vary -- and it should.

In the spirit of this track, I recommend also listening to ((( O ))). I know, this is impossible to search for, but it will help if you know one of the song titles, for instance, "Infintro", which is track one of the album ((( 1 ))). Sorry, I am not making up these names and it does not help infintro is spelled without an i. It's like she does this on purpose...:) Anyway, well worth listening to, I promise!

I really like this album, thanks for sharing Chris. I found that ((( O ))) is noted to be June Marieezy and you can look her up on Wikipedia. There are a few albums on Tidal for June Marieezy, but not the one above. You have to search ((( O ))) on Tidal to find it.

Decided to drill out my original bracket and see how it works. Will update all on how it works…
Good job -- I don't see any bandages or blood!

My NIC also cuts out at a certain temp (around 70C) so I plan to add a few heatpipes to cool the chip on the Solarflare card in the final build, until then I'm using a fan on low rpm. FIS audio has a simialr passive cooling solution on the market.
