Taiko are promoting the use of DAC cables to connect their switch to their server. Can this cable be used for other switches and streamers with SFP connections?

Best regards

Hans

This can be done. In fact, Melco recommends it for its Switches and makes a cable for it. It's expensive compared to a standard one, but really good.

It seems you did go from Taiko supplied DACcable to Melco?
Difference in price is huge.

How would you describe the sonic difference?

Cheers, Ulrich

Naturalness (less digititis)
Better bass
better image

I purchased 2 of these cables for use between my Taiko router, Taiko switch and then to my Extreme.
I purchased them from Sound Image in Atlanta. Contact Lawson for excellent service.
The Melco C1 DAC cables are excellent!

I have been using the Melco SPF+ cable between my Taiko Switch and the Taiko Extreme since yesterday and the sound performance is superlative... Improved sound scene, crystal clear highs and more open bass.A more than recommended investment from my point of view

...I ordered one of these a couple of days ago. Shipping cost more than cable to the US! Looking forward to trying it out. Two meters, BTW.

Please let us know what you think of this one. I’m still trying to find the right one for my system, but the Melco wasn’t it!

Well, I’ve played around a lot on this. I have the router, DCD and Switch.

For most of time I’ve used a 0.5m stock DAC cable between the router and switch and a 1.0m from the switch to the Extreme. I also bought a 4M as well as I was curious about the sound difference due to both the length and wire gauge (going from 30 -> 24). In my experience, I got a lot more bass and weight when using the 4M from the switch to the extreme, but the system sounded a bit slow and lethargic for my taste. So I took it out.

Last week I actually tried the 4M between my router and switch and kept the 1M between the switch and extreme. For me, this was the best I’ve heard in my system when using these Taiko products.

There is still something that I’m not 100% happy with since leaving my old switch setup so that’s why I’m exploring more. I demoed the Melco DAC cables the week they were released but they sounded a bit closed to me, smaller sound stage, etc. It’s not what I expected, but that’s what I heard in my system—my dealer felt the same way—so curious to try this other DAC cable you found.

One thing I’ve found is that these Taiko pieces are highly sensitive to ANY changes, like footers, DAC cables, DC cables and Ethernet cables so I’m being patient to explore all the options. It’s pretty easy to hear any change I make.

I may have replied to your post incorrectly. MarkusBarkus is getting the Project Clay X from Afterdark. Currently, I use the Taiko DAC cable between the Taiko router and switch and a 7 meter QSA DAC cable between the Taiko switch and Extreme. I'm going to check out the Melco in a couple of weeks. I'm hoping my experience is more like Francisco's (nonesup) than yours :)

Yeah, I’m curious to hear about the Afterdark cable.

Out of curiosity, what made you choose the QSA DAC cable from the switch to the Extreme vs the standard one? Did you try the QSA between the router and switch as well?

It's been quite awhile since I placed them in the network chain. At the risk of sounding like a drone, I generally do whatever Vassil aka Nenon suggests. I have benefited greatly from this acolytic behavior!

FYI, I spoke with someone at AfterDark and decided to order their DAC cable as well. Just bought a 1m cable to use between my switch and Extreme. They advised me that it takes roughly 14 days for full burn in.

Love to hear how it performs in your system, Ryan!
