Do you know if Abbas has matched the model to your new one? You wrote that the replacement DAC is modified and should sound better.
I don’t know. Abbas seems to not have a “standard”. Something today is different tomorrow. I didn’t notice any difference in sound between the two. It may be a case where you need an A/B switch flipping back and forth to notice. The innards look very similar but not exact.

Thank you!

Are you also using the 6SN7 soviet tubes with your new 2.4 SE?

Does the DAC get very warm when the DAC with top is used?

I’m using the RCA red base. I would say it gets warm but not hot.

I mostly listen to vinyl but I played the Abbas yesterday for the first time in a while. Sounded great feeding it from CEC TL1.
“Sounded great “. Probably not close to being burned-in fully with infrequent usage.

Are also not so cheap :D

I still have to read a little about the different variants of 6SN7. The most expensive are GEC METAL BASE and BRIMAR "Black Beauty" cost up to £ 1000 per piece.

I believe Abbas has said it doesn’t need burn.
Okay. Abbas told me recently my 3.2SE DAC requires 200 hours to be thoroughly burned-in. I just assumed (Maybe erroneously) there wouldn’t be much different with the 2.4SE.

@jespera
You have 3 Abbas DACs. What is your burn-in experience with them?

Id say 100h+. But it may be valve dependent. I find that all nos valves need a bit of time before they peak. Some more than others.

With the right 6sn7 that 2.4se will sound very nice. Too bad the jacmusic sylvania 7n7 (15 eur) with adapters will only fit with the lid off.

Variance of tubes as a factor makes sense. Abbas utilizes Blackgate capacitors, and many believe they require a substantial burn-in period to sound their best. Then there's lots of wire in the multiple transformers as another possible factor.

They all look like top shelf to me.

Melz 6sn7 is another option but it’s gotta be the right version.

Ask Abbas for advice.

Yeah, Abbas told me RCA red base or the Melz. I use the red base because they are shorter.

@charles1dad - Did you receive your Abbas, and if so any initial impressions?
