Alsyvox - Hi end Munich 2022 - your thoughts

I see they had the Jadis integrated amplifier that uses the KT 170 tubes, was this not fired up as this would have been quite an intetesting combo ?
I was not in the room, but I was told that the integrated was only on display.

In the past I used the 90 Watt Jadis I-88 with the Botticelli. Good sound with plenty of power. As a matter of fact when Daniele was at my place in NYC he first heard his Alsyvox with my I-88 and then I introduced him to the Jadis folks which then followed with the show this last weekend.

That's why the JA80s were planned for the Munich, but somehow the JA30s ended up being the Jadis amps that were available to use this year.

As the last few years went by since the Alsyvox/Jadis introduction I switched over to VAC amplification for my higher power tube gear.

The KT 170 is a formidable tube and is more open, extended and less colored than the KT 150.

Funny I am totally happy with my lowly STOCK KT-88s in my VAC amps.

My immediate thought when I walked into the room was that the bass was nowhere to be found. On top of that, the mids and highs were a slightly bit rougher than I’d expect from this type of speaker. Underwhelming.

I was told it was more powerful sounding but sonically inferior.

One of the most puzzling things about the Alsyvox is that it is designed for efficiency. But guys seem to want to drive them with high powered amps. Why not take advantage of the designer's work?

For what it's worth, the word on the street is that the best amp for Alsyvox - for music lovers - is the Jadis 845. It is similarly powered to the Jadis 30, but is much more musical and transparent. But guys who run the speaker with the Jadis 845 are probably too busy listening to music than to partake in forum discussions and convince others of their superior tastes.

Hi Caeser, Listen to the Alsyvox speakers with big power, then you will understand. Although different strokes for different folks.

Again, the JA30 was not the intended amps that were supposed to be used for the show. There were some logistical issues with the planned JA 80s that were originally going to be used. No big deal, the Alsyvox have been shown with more power at many shows in the past and will be in the future as well. Actually in 2 months from now at the Northwest Audio show in Seattle.

Good point. If the sound is very different with high and low powered amps, one may want to own both and switch it up every month or two

Haha, except there is more I have four different sounds that I enjoy with my Alsyvox. All different sonic presentations.

1) High Power SS 2) High power tubes 3) Low power push-pull or preferably 50 Watt SETs 4) Low power Class A SS 30-60Watts.

Apparently they sounded phenomenal in Holland with Aries Cerat amps. Those were 40 watt monos I believe.

There are 20 pairs installed in the US all with at least 100 Watts on each pair and they all sound phenomenal.

Emile has the Raffaello now which will be driven with sufficient power to light them up if so desired.

The 2019 Hi-Fi Deluxe demo was in a larger room with a bigger setup.

Good planar magnetic bass is amazing. The trouble is no one will believe it unless you prove it.

That takes volume, watts and the right room. I think from what's been said, that was unachievable this year.

I might go to Valencia sometime with some bass tracks and have a chat with Danielle if he's about. In 2019 I didn't see anything in the CD collection they had that could prove their bass ability, at least that I could recognise shuffling through it. And I didn't have anything with me we could play (like an idiot).

Rough mid and highs can also easily be heard through ribbons when something's not optimal including the source material. So I am not surprised you had that experience. I've spent ages trying to solve that problem with my customised Apogees. I am happy I expended the effort.

All in all I am confident from the 2019 demo the speakers are outstanding, to be quite frank. Just need to hear how they handle material with copious amounts of bass and high volume levels.

You really should visit Emile and do the bass tests with the Raffaello. Emile plays soundtracks and show tunes with BIG BASS and has a lot to do with how the Raffaello came into existence.

I am NOT suggesting that full range ribbon planers are for everyone and the best sound etc. What I am suggesting is for those that do lust after full range ribbons that are easy to drive the Alsyvox are a revelation. This is proven by a LOT of existing Alsyvox users around the globe.

I owned six pairs of Apogees in the 80s and LOVED them. For me the Alsyvox were like the second coming EXCEPT they were easy to drive and for me more aesthetically pleasing.

If you like planers in general, especially full ribbon planers, then give Alsvyox a listen in a well set up system. See what you think for yourself.

Can you PM with a bit more info?

Thanks.

Hey, if you’re in the Pacific Northwest, I know of just such a place. I’ve heard the host is reasonably nice too.
