Ron, at 54, with a mental age of 84, I object to being called an old geezer.
Dinosaur, yes, old geezer, no.

Stylus guards can be a danger - I think I have heard more times about damage caused by people misplacing them than from hazards due to non users.
The only solid solution seems to be the bulky and inconvenient turntable cover.

Dear Shane,
My wife let me go so mad on audio as long as I leave my office at 4pm for home and no audio on weekends to spend time with my boy. Given this limited window openning, I am not such a good host. But if you fit my time I can savor the flavors of Thai food for you. Happy stomach makes happy listening.

Maids and secretary’s can be trained or fired! ! I lost 2 top cartridges to 2 different wifes cleaning effort ! Passiv aggressive behavior maybe ?When this kind of $h_t happened, nothing you could do. Just have to laugh it out . Would you hit more like if I were to buy the MC Century?
Tang
Firstly, sorry to hear that Tang! I hope it leads to something good (like a surprisingly good new cartridge)
I actually am more interested in DaveyF's message about the stylus guards! I am getting a colibri xgw master signature and would love to have a proper guard for it!
The mind races. Not sure what you and your secretary might have been doing that involved a turntable. Most people would probably use some other form of furniture.....BREAKING NEWS:
(Just try to imitate Ron)
My secretary just busted my ZYX Universe premium. The diamond tip now turned 90 degree parellel to the vinyl. The ZYX was definitely my karma with infinite dramas. Or should I look at the bright side and take this is as an opportunity to buy a new cart.
Tang
Maybe she was hired to turn records. He has a cartridge guy !The mind races. Not sure what you and your secretary might have been doing that involved a turntable. Most people would probably use some other form of furniture.....
You sure have one naughty mind race Marty. The mind races. Not sure what you and your secretary might have been doing that involved a turntable. Most people would probably use some other form of furniture.....
Tang,
May I suggest as your son get old to expose him to you wonderful stereo system and collection of classical music. Every evening during the week, my 8 year old daughter and I listen to classical music and complete her math homework. Some times she asks for Mozart, sometimes she ask for the Nutcracker guy (Tchaikovsky) and others.
Enjoy!
Haha very good Tang.My son asked to do a needle drop every time he came to my office. He gave me this million dollar jackpot smile every time the music started once the needle landed. I taught him how to do it gently using arm lowering lever. He can certainly land the stylus a lot more softly than Bonzo.
Tang
Dear Tang,
It is great to have your son do the needle drop and see that smile
I do not get why people are so condescending to women in this hobby and even here on this forum... I get a similar feeling with my wife (I have no kids). I showed her our system, it is a more delicate system than what she has seen before. She has a small record collection and she really enjoys the system, I want her to listen to it even I am away, but she is too careful. I would prefer she listens to it than the small system in her study. I told her, I do not care if she breaks the needle, blows up the amp etc. as long as she was trying to listen to music and enjoy the main system.

Frankly, what scares me more is someone trying to touch the tweeters of my speakers. I've seen and heard of quite a few "poked in" tweeters. Now that is a real hassle to repair.
