All Lamm phonos use shunted SUT circuits for MC. So we are SUT-ing by default. On order you can specify the ratios for the LP2s and LP2.1s. The Signature has a low and high ratio.
Of all the externals I've tried the only one that gave the Lamm custom Jenzens a fight were Silvercore. In any case, if one does want to try, both models have excellent MM inputs. The tough part is finding the right cables to use with external SUTs. I use Masterbuilt (obviously )
I have tried several SUT in the $1-$2K range on my LP2.1 but keep coming back to the internal MC input. I have several classic MM cartridges (AT, Shure, Grace) and can confirm that the MM input is by far the best I've had in my system.
When I do evaluations typically I ask my host to play a whole side or half an album continuously. If I were with Ked and his infamous song switchinng, I'd go friggin bonkers LOL
Tang is already paying his subs for intensive psychotherapy ahead of Ked booking his plane fare.
I have no idea what the great composers would have thought if they knew their complex longform compositions were going to be the victim of someone w the attention span of a goldfish.

I do that as well, but not while comparing. Even at Tang's I played entire sides three times. Today, I played the whole physical graffiti album on tannoys. But yes I have driven enough people bonkers.

Thank you, Jack. I know that all Lamm phonos use SUTs. So I meant only that if you go with a Lamm phono you necessarily have made the embedded decision to use a SUT to generate some of your phono gain.
As I have written and said to people many times I love the whole suite of the top Lamm components.
(It is only a slight philosophical quirk about wanting high-power amps to be all-tube at the back end, and my infatuation with the Io at the front end, which keeps me from swapping the whole thing for an all-Lamm system.)

hopefully when you come to SoCal this summer you'll bring your clubs and play the courses in my back yard. I tried to encourage Sam to do the same when he was here last year
