American Sound AS-2000 Installations- Far East (Tango)

Thanks Steve! I'll see what I can do onn the club end, baggage limits traveling with wife and kids :)

Now the Studer is back from service. Talk about too many things too little space. The only time I miss Bonzo in my room is when I have all these heavy gears to move. I have two sets of Ayon monos, one is 75 Kgs the other is 60 kgs a piece, to move. 4 more pieces of Ayon to take out from CMS and put them in boxes. Figuring out how to position 8 pieces of Lamm. I have to first check if I get hums from using 7 meters interconnect amps to preamp. If there is hum I have to move the preamp to within 2 meters of amps which would require me to disassemble my cms for relocation. Only audio and my wife give me more mental exhaustion than running business...because I love both so much.

This better get me beyond Khun David.

Tang the heavy lifting problem could be easily solved. Start hiring your
secretary for muscle instead of looks !;)
P.s. I’m sure your beloved wife would approve.

I don't know your electrical but I have no humm problems with 7m Lamm pre to Lamm amp - single-ended.

Dear Lagonda,

Before I got married, I used to have a Motor Show pretty as a secretary because I was thinking skills I can teach but not beauty. It didn't turnout too well. Now I have my trusty secretary who weigh 80 kgs.

Ps. Ron is my censorship shadow. This is all I can say.

Kindest regards,
Tang

I do not know what grounding arrangements you have in your units, but I had to make some non-approved :( grounding modifications to my home built mains distributor to use long RCAs with the L3/ LL1 combo. But is is now silent as a rock!

You had to lift the ground or more than that?

Lamm equipment mixes chassis ground with audio ground? Bummer.

What were these modifications you made?

Are most audiophiles willing to put a $0.99 cheater plug at the end of their $$$$ power cables? I'd rather have the tube equipment fixed. A 10ohm resistor from IEC ground to chassis is usually sufficient.

USA version of $0.99 cheater plug below. Maybe what high end audio needs next is a $599 NCF cheater plug. ;-). A bit of a safety issue though.

Not much wrong with them! One can use the cheater plug to test for ground loops and then remove it and lift the ground from the power cord or the outlet (which is illegal in a lot of states) for sonic nirvana.

Yes, if one choses to cut off the third prong from a pricey power cable, more power to them! As you say, it probably does not comply with the electrical code pretty much anywhere (in the US). So I prefer the grounding scheme in the equipment instead be designed such that the audio ground is not shorted to chassis electrical ground, and these issues are avoided in the first place.

You don't have to cutoff anything just disconnect the ground wire in the plug, this is legal but messing with the outlets can be against code but many don't care. Ground loops aren't caused by equipment, it's the house wiring that usually creates the problems.

I havent installed Steve. Just took them out from the boxes. Too busy with work. So I just stare at them. Let them whow who's the boss so that they behave.

Was just making plan a plan b in case there is hum.

Yeah, you can physically disconnect the bare copper wire in the wall too. Be super careful with that. Wrap it in electrical tape, etc. You definitely don't want it wandering around and accidentally making contact with the hot terminal. Generally, I don't like this advice at all, to be honest.

I'll leave it at that.

13m here, no issues,.Still, hum is one of those mysterious beasts. Good luck Tang!
