Francisco (Micro), how big is your garage...I ask because between what you have sold during an audio life and what audio pieces you still have the difference seems to be substantially "macro".

I did XV. I was using it with GFS on one of my 3012R. I did not think there was anything better. Dietrich is one designer who met me quite often but never pushed me to anything or try to convince me that his equipments are better. He is more of an engineer and likes to talk about technical stuff. He could impress the hell out of Micro if they talk.

Are you now using the SME headshell with the GFS? I found that it didn't fit when I tried to install it.
Yes the GFS flower body didn't fit the SME headshell. I was using Arche head shell.

I remember seeing another Thai audiophile using 3012R on his 927 cut part of the folding lip of SME head shell to put GFS on. That didn't cost much.

I saw my good friend Gian expressed a hint of frustration on the ever advancement of the brand he is using and the corresponding price hike. It got me to think about one perspective of buying into an audio brand; the maturity of design and its proven performance. (I am not talking about digital products.)I have been seeing so many audio manufacturers keep pumping out the new best with even higher price. Why is there a new best so soon? And why is the new best has to be considerably more expensive than the old best. Why dont they sell sell their new best at the same price as the old best and give privilege to their existing customer to buy the new one at special discount. This way I only see the brand and loyalty strengthen. Frankly I have been seeing some of us consumer became a rat lab for some manufacturers exploring their R&D and their far from mature design. I wish to say when buying into a brand we should try to study and understand the nature of designer too. Is his thought in design mature and already crystalized or is he still in a developing path. How is his integrity. Integrity is most important. To me an audio designer that come up with ideas all the time and rush to bring out new best is the one to avoid.

There does seem to be a relentless and automatic price increase with every new design which often seems to bear little or no connection to the incremental manufacturing cost increase, if any, of the new design. Cartridges appear to be among the worst offenders here.
I certainly value and applaud companies whose prior and current products can be upgraded to the newest design iteration for merely a rational upgrade fee.
VTL and Aesthetix are two examples of companies which design new models in a way which allows older models to be upgraded to the new and improved version. Both of these companies also tend to bring out new models only very slowly — only when the designer really has something new to “say.”

I think CH is offering trade ins on existing stuff? There's a chance they wanted to increase price on existing ones but they try not to meddle with that because price changes often offend. Not all manufacturers hold the prestige, of say, Lamm, so that they can sell the same models in decent amounts for decades. So introducing different products isn't the worst idea to get attention again - and do you have dozens of products or concentrate on core ones?
Sometimes new designs are just completely incompatible with previous designs for upgrading. And sometimes as a designer you are never sure what kind of discovery you might come across. It's important to understand the complication of information for audio design, as there are no single books that can tell you how to make a nice sounding product, and the information that is out there takes a really long time to dig through and validate. I would ask how many years of R&D are necessary before ever selling a new product?
Also I think it's just as fair to ask, why are audiophiles so neurotic they have to want the new model when the previous was good enough until the new one came out? If you aren't buying, you aren't paying an increased price.
But as to what Tang is saying, I can understand the "so soon" comment. How soon, is soon? It does seem like perhaps it's best not to pump out yearly models like cars... And yet other manufacturers like Thomas Mayer puts out new products frequently with new materials, are these more ok because they read like they are significantly different as they switch conductor material, or the difference literally weighs more?
I'm pretty curious about everyone's thoughts on this subject. Obviously consumers want what's best for them. But they'd also like it if it was all free and came so fast a complimentary hot coffee/tea came with it and was still hot when it arrived.

To be fair, M10 is not a replacement of M1.1. It is much more powerful and it is for large room or inefficient speakers.
One may have a case for L1 vs L10 since they perform the same functions. However, I think L1 came out around 2014. So it is around 5 years time. It is not too short for a new preamp.
However, I do agree that some manufacturers do have new models come out too quickly. I can think of one DAC manufacturer from Poland.
Maybe it would simply appease people to announce a new model is coming up so many months, or a year ahead of time? That way people wouldn't buy until it came out? That isn't necessarily good for the company but would certainly have a bit of agency with consumer?
People have to decide for themselves if these new models are really advancements. Maybe there is a cure for upgradeitis.
