I wrote that “I suspect….” I can not be sure, but he changed his speakers, no? I am talking about when we no longer want system changes.
Al also doesn’t want system changes. And by that logic I haven’t heard a good enough system to want one.
Let’s not confuse listening, listening ability, buying behaviour, justification, and sonics of the gear/system
I´ve been "happy" with my system for several years, but that doesn´t mean I´ve stopped taking U-turns or looking for ways to improve it

Bonzo, my comments are based on Tim’s post with which I agree. Exposure comes from hearing what is possible. It can be a video or system somewhere, but one needs to hear it for himself. It is personal. One then associates that with a reference. That then becomes the catalyst for change.

Yes, experimentation and improvement is an intrinsic part of stereo sound reproduction. Surely if someone thinks that the whole process, music creation included, stopped fifty years ago it is easier to reach a freezing point.
The point is that thousands of audiophiles share an enjoyable and healthy hobby that involves experimenting, upgrading and listening to music. We come to this forum to read and write about it.
Of course you realize that this entire thread is for an ancient technology ie, the turntable. While improved, the initial design of this turntable dates back to the 70's almost 50 years old. Ironically the final system addition to this endgame system is a speaker system from the 50's!

David, this observation was not lost on me. And don’t forget his favorite cartridge is from 1960s and the power cords are more than 20 years old. The stereo sound reproduction process has not stopped, but has it evolved and improved?
Experimenting is not intrinsic to the hobby. It is for those who choose to do so. I still do it occasionally with set up until I learn some thing new and then stop but much less so than I used to. It is essential for learning but does not need to be done continuously.
JMLC horns for TAD 4003 and 2002. I changed to CD horn on 4003 doing 600-20K. Big change.Lots of measuring, new passive filter on 4003 and tuning
Also going Powersoft from FLH 550Hz and down . More tuning.All this year

Okay - this is your horns project that bonzo wrote about. Constant directivity horn on TAD 4003 driver. Powersoft change is an amp for your midrange and lower? Fascinating DIY.
Powersoft is an Italian pro poweramp series....100% solar driven plant, designing their own Class D amps, powersupplies and dsp from ground up
was tipped by Rune Skramstad of NNNN.no a friend of mine
A/B´d back and forth for months, driving all from 65 and up by my 300Bs or letting the Powersoft handle all below CD horn; i.e. 550 and down
ended up with the latter solution....cannot detect transition from Powersoft to 300B and gains were enormous in drive and integration
Powersoft is set for 1ch in and 3 out per channel with individual dsp, 2kw for subhorns and 2x1kw for midbasses...no noise
upper mid-basses have slightly more delay than lower to align better with CD horn and create more of a point source image
Rune told me they used this a lot at his previous job at Cisco designing speach systems...improved clarity and focus, due to better time alignment

when i wrote it was 3 drivers plus bass horns. Only bass horns were active. Now it is 2 drivers plus bass horn, with the midrange to high horn now a CD horn instead of JMLC.

Why would anyone buy an American Sound table when there is no website. We are talking about a lot of money here folks and nothing to check on as far as a website.
Jeff, What do you need to check on, you can’t buy these turntables? All turntables were sold before the first one was ever built, based on reputation alone. Websites are for marketing, and this turntable does not need any marketing.
There is a list of people who want these turntables as soon as they become available, if they ever do. I’m one of the 10 people who bought 12 of these turntables without a website. I never needed the website to fix anything or answer any questions. I think all owners are personal friends of David Karmeli and they have full confidence in his communication and service and I’m not aware of any of the turntables in the field ever having a problem.
This turntable was a unique moment in time. The project is finished.

I would much rather talk directly to the manufacturer and other owners than read a marketing website.
You have to think of the AS-2000 as a one off vanity project, made by someone with extensive experience in industrial manufacturing. There are many examples of this in other ultra expensive hobbies like car and boat racing.
