Apogee Full range

The Duetta's are planars, typical sensitivity numbers taken at 1m can be misleading. In his Duettta Signature review Martin Colloms reported that when listened at 3 m distance the Duetta operates at the equivalent of 86dB/W.

Which is still too low for SET in a large room especially since impedance is well below 8ohms. YMMV.

Dave, that's not going to happen. I already have two alternatives that synergise perfectly w/SETs, my Zus, and horns, both of which in the right setup can be superb. Having discovered late in my upgrading career the sheer beauty and hypnotic quality of SETs, I'm damned if I'm going to ditch them now.
I'm still going to investigate the Graz Duettas of User211, but I very much take yr point that the physics of this match are a challenge LOL. However Justin has run Duettas w/SETs, and I'll take his experience at face value.
My proposed room may end up being a lot smaller than what I've been considering before, and again this will influence my choice.

That's what I'm wondering Marc, why you're paying this much attention to planars when by all accounts they're the worst match for SETs, or vice versa.

Dave, my interest in planars had been actually marginal at best, but piqued recently.
My upgrade path has pretty much got me to a point where, having discovered SETs, my ONLY rational spkr choices are high efficiency models, either my current 101dB eff Zus, or a move to horns, AG Trios/B'horns at 107dB.
I am VERY happy to go down either path, stick w/Zus, explore AG Trios/B'horns.
My Nat SETs dealer, contrary to your views, runs AA Omegas planars w/the aforementioned Nat SETs, mainly 120W/ch Transmitters using giant Phillips tetrodes (the more exotic 170W Nat Magmas available too) and has always encouraged me to keep an open mind. But, like you, I look at the specs, and can't see how this could work, esp when I have pretty much declined JBL Everests and Giya G1s for SET mismatch reasons.
And now, further delving into the Apogee world reveals the Duettas/Advance 7s, which proponents say CAN work w/SETs.
So, my contribution on this thread is to ask for opinions, and now I have some continued contact w/a Graz Apogee Duetta guy who has run 211 SETs himself for some time (moved to Accuphase SS since).

No, I think Bonzo has, however.
BTW, still in the Zu fold, and odds-on to carry on w/the brand. Flagship Experiences launching at Munich 2016, and I'm hearing some exciting things about them from Sean and Gerrit.
Oops, off topic in a MAJOR way, don't want to invite the wrath of the OP!

Me too. Twice. Once dreadful, the second time surprisingly OK. Complete paradox they've got me baffled TBH.

Anyway, back on you need 1.2 Gigawatts to drive a Duetta...

Yep Justin, I'll check your electricity meter readout before and after demo.
No problem, I have 8kVA of lovely balanced power to play with, courtesy of my 150lb Westwick transformer.

I have heard the $100k voxativ. Crossoverless down to 25hz. They are convenient in terms of size, as they are like flat screen TVs that go on to the wall. However I found them to have a plastic tone and lack of general decay and musicality. Bass was normal, nothing great but nothing bad, and they soundstaged into the room. Not something I would buy.

Could anyone post a link to Keith Howard's measurements of the Analysis Audio loudspeakers?
Thanks,
Keith.

Keith - they will sound better than Kii, if you are interested

I first heard the Analysis audio speakers in Munich eight? years ago, they had one of those portakabin rooms downstairs.
If they measurements correlate to the subjective review I can understand why you would believe they sound similar to a live performance.
Keith.

Which subjective reviews, these?

Kii v AA Omega. A pointless comparison/mismatch.
I vote for Cessaro Liszt v Elac B6 next.

You'll be trying Cessaro Liszt v Elac B6 next, Bonzo.

Only if the latter measure well. Battle of the (frequency curve) bulge

Bonzo, so does the FR hit the sweet spot for you? If you really can get a Graz-restored version for £15k, that's as good a price as y'r likely to get in the high end re spkrs, and as you say, they seriously trounce more expensive candidates. It's surely more room-friendly, and higher WAF than big horns like Trios/B'horns, or even Animas. And as you say, amps play more of a second fiddle to them, so a nice Ypsilon Aelius or Lamm hybrid, prob s/h, would suffice. You have yr source of choice, the GG, and cables you like, the Tara Cobalt. And tweaks you rate, the Mooks.
What else is there to think about?

No, like I said, it does not have the best balance, but it is tweakable. FR, Amphi, and a good horn all require space, 100k more at least, in terms of Central London real estate. Omega and Interstellar and Advance 7 smaller, latter expensive, and banks don't give a mortgage for it. Which is why my shortlist is still Omegas.

To be honest I spent some time with Jon Oakey as we starred in wonderment at the measurements for the AA Omega published in Hi-Fi News. More than a little odd to say the least. We wondered whether they had measured at 1m.

The one thing I will say when listening to the AA - ask yourself - where's the treble?

Can somebody look at Acoustat measurements for me? Just wondering if all good sounding speakers measure bad.

Omegas, but not the Oakey Graz Duettas, parallel spec to Justin's? Why not? Same size, same amp req'ments, gen same price as custom x'overed Omegas from Peter. Surely a direct a-b choice?

Did they just make the usual 1metre measurement or did they gate the measurement to allow for the speakers height?
Keith.
