Burmester 911 mk3

Hi,

Most palpable is the fact that the music sounds 'free' and 'liberated' in a very subtle way which I began to notice after a few hours of playback. I feel that at much lower volumes, the dynamics are astounding. I am actually beginning to understand why some people say that the system eases up so much that one ceases to contemplate on the source of music and just begins to enjoy!
I do realize that I am a bit philosophical now but I guess I can't help it.

Cheers

audio nirvana

hi everyone,

i cant thank you all enough for your messages and good wishes!

by the way, Thf99, i am running them in a vertically bi-amped config, which has not yielded any significant increase in SPL but the sound is sweeter with far better separation.

.....and talking of Napa valley wine, Marin Jim, thats one thing i dont get in South Africa unfortuntately (though i must admit that the south african cabs are pretty good). but i do have a few bottles of Opus 2006 cab still left......which i think i will finish up pretty soon.

cheers

sujay

Hi Sujay,

I think you now finally understand what most of us were saying. I am so glad you are happy, that makes us happy :)

absolutely! and the best part is that the change in the set-up draws you into it slowly.

cheers

Like I said earlier, the 911s are very addictive. They literally draw you into the system. My 911s together with the 808 have clocked about 100 hours and they are getting better by the day. I'm sure you'll experience the same thing. The one thing that really transformed my system is the cables made by my dealer. They easily trounce the top cables from the best cable manufacturers. Unfortunately, you guys can't buy them. He only sells them to buyers of his equipment. Apparently, he doesn't profit from these cables. He only makes enough for his customers.

Sure, keep rubbing it in. :(

Maybe you could tell your dealer someone took your cables and you need another set? Just tell me where to send the funds :)

I'm so sorry, Joe. I don't mean to do that. I'll try and see if I can coax him into selling me a spare set.

No, please do not feel bad. I am joking with you. Maybe my humor does not translate so well in these posts. I am so very glad you are happy with your setup. This is what it is all about. Friends sharing a passion for music and gear.

What are you using for a source. A Burmester cd player? I forget what you have.

Joe

Now you should demo in your Burmester System a full set (power cords, ic and speaker) of Nordost Top Cable (Valhalla or Odin). Nordost and Burmester have a superb sinergy. The sound of your Burmester system will improve the overall performance to an incredibile level of performance without modify the outstanding Burmester sound qualities. Just jumping up to an outstanding level. You should try and then you can fully understand what I mean ;) ;)

Hi Rocco,

I think my dealer wants me to try Nordost Cable. I will eventually try what he recommends when I can afford it. :)

A friend of mine went to Singapore to listen to a few high end systems (top Mcintosh electronics with Focal speakers, top mbl system, a Soulution system driving Q3s and a few other set ups all costing in excess of US$200k) and he came back to report that the system at my dealer easily bests them all! He was so convinced that he bought the whole set up except that he replaced the 061 player with the 111. I'm quite sure it must be the cables that do the trick.

I would love some feedback on the 111 music sever. I am sure it must be very special.

I'm, too, waiting for the 111 to arrive at my dealer's showroom (sometime at the end of the month) and I'll report back on the outcome. I'm sure it'll be a fantastic unit.

Rocco,
We had compared the Valhalla cables and they were no match for my dealer's cable. However, we don't have the Odin cables for comparison.

Superb. Please after your demo, share with us your experience.

Joe, when you'll demo the Nordost in your system try to follow the Nordost Policy, as, well as:

1) Power cords
2) Interconnect
3) Speaker

According Nordost, and I personally confirm after tested, in such way the performance is at the best!

If you do not meet this recommended sequence of the overall result may be distorted.

What did you test of Nordost Valhalla cables? I mean power cords, interconnect, speaker?

Great! Definitely please post when you've heard the 111! Thanks, Thf99!

Hi Thf99,

Ditto in my experience as well. In fact, I lived in Singapore for 5 yrs before moving into SA. I listened extensively to the soulutions monos driving Tidals, amongst others. I found them very sterile although the Tidals are brilliant!

Cheers

My experience with Soulution amps is the same. Thin sound!

I have heard an all-out-assault all-Tidal system...i learned a LOT about what is possible that day. A LOT...mainly on detail, decay, retrieval, instrument separation. I also heard the Stahl-Tek Vekian that day...

...but i came away saying i would not trade my system for it. It was definitely a touch cold...the 'cool knob' was definitely 3 notches too far for me. The dealer showed me a Zanden-tube amp-horn system...same coolness and i know Zanden and the Tron tube system...so it was more about how they setup the rest of the system. cables i suspect.

So in word, i came away from hearing the Tidal system extremely impressed...and still suspect some smart but slight adjustments to setup would be stunning to my ears. Probably in the cables, possibly in one or 2 of the pieces of electronics.
