Steve,
Were your experiences carried with Valhalla speaker cable? Valhalla's are intrinsically self elevating -it is impossible to keep them flat on the floor unless you nail or glue them!
I have Valhalla all around, but I am on padded medium pile carpet over concrete. I though it might be good to elevate them to reduce static charge from the carpet. I still don't think I can hear a difference however.
Hello, gentlemen. This thread is a shining example of the theory of how to achieve good sound and what it takes to get there [which makes sense in the case of cable isolators] and the actual end result as to what hits your ears. Is it theory or reality? My take is that it's situation dependent. YMMV.
My cable elevators arrived today and I was surprised at how heavy they are. As soon as I took them out of the shipping boxes, I could already hear my stereo downstairs sounding better. My Nikon D5100 also arrived today. Four new LPs showed up yesterday and a pair of Mogami XLR cables showed up on Tuesday. Its been a good week so far.
With regards to the cable elevators, I can seriously tell you one thing I really do like about them already even if they don't make one bit of difference to the sound. Due to the layout of the back panel of my amp, it was impossible to keep the power cord from contacting the speaker cables. Now that the speaker cables are on elevators, the power cord doesn't touch anymore. The same thing was true for the power cords that come from the subwoofer amps built into each of my main speakers.

Like I said Steve, they do keep the speaker cables away from the PCs which is a good thing. I don't regret buying them now if for no other reason than that. Plus, you can't really be a serious audiophile if you don't have cable elevators can you?
My preliminary opinion is that maybe, just maybe, the sound is just a skosh cleaner with having the cable elevators in the system. Does it have more to do with keeping the speaker cables away from power cords than it does with keeping the speaker off the carpet? Damned if I know. Could I detect the difference in a double blind test after having my ears boxed first? Damned if I know. Do I want to pull them out of my system and lick my wounds over having wasted $240? Nope.
Now here is where things are going to get a little tricky as to whether I'm being serious or pulling your leg:When using the cable elevators, the height of your sound stage will increase proportionately to the distance your speaker cable are moved up from the floor.
Mep you may have just discovered a new high end product Adjustable cable elevators in cooperation with mitutoyo heightmeasurement tools http://zuil.ez-base.nl/catalogi/Mitutoyo/Mitutoyo/ to dail in your soundstage to an accuracy of 1/100 of a mm
Anyway it keeps the expensive cables clean , isnt it born after the cables got more and more expensive
It was a humbling experience as i quickly learned in a simple swap out test done blinded. I failed miserably. As I said YMMV but this one test on a Saturday afternoon quickly changed whatever positives I said previously. In spite of this I still use them. I noticed in the Shunyata review done on Soundstage the differences were said to be minimal. Well, isn't this waffling by someone who had high expectation bias
You experienced one of the things I mention now and again; when we make a change we automatically think it will have an affect and mentally we run through a "model" of what we think we will perceive, takes a certain approach to be able to break this (similar to debiasing methods in some way).
This is also compounded that sometimes just noticable differences without a forced choice framework tends to cause a person not "see" that they cannot differentiate accurately.
So combining both you can have the situation you described then and later Steve.
Good example because all of us are affected by this and guarantee we have done the same even if it does not involve audio, and include myself in this even though taught about this many years ago and applied to my work.

I'm not following your logic here. I came into this with zero expectations and said I would report out either way. I did find one thing positive, and that is keeping speaker cables away from power cables.
That could have been determined before the purchase though and is really immaterial to the sonic end result as to what hits your ears. You had mentioned that perhaps you noticed that the sound was just a smidge clearer, or something to that effect. IMO, that's the ONLY thing that matters. The end result. The theory behind it doesn't amount to a hill of beans to me. If you truly came into it with an open mind, and noticed a sonic difference? I'm glad for you. I'm actually proud that you would make such an observation and post it on a public forum with such a "heated", if you will, topic and product.
Grunt, grunt, ehh grunt, ahhhh. The sound of audiophiles all over the world lifting up their 100 pound cable runs and resting them on some chair or something of given height. And the results are........
