'Cos those countries have been much better prepared, thanks to SARS pandemic a few years back.

People in Italy on the other hand, were largely downplaying the danger ... until it was too late (which is almost always the case, when a disease spreads exponentially).

You got it again; some countries are better prepared than others. They had the experience first hand.

I am not getting political, just factual. Yesterday the POTUS said “Stay calm and it will go away.” This seems like a different message than what Fauci said today.

We should be getting a vaccine in one month or one year correct? I heard it’s going to be BEAUTIFUL.

Tang, I'm 100% with you, and Howie.

Previously I wasn't so sure, because of what I was reading.
Now I'm much more advanced in my awareness...thank you dear Tango sir.
And thanks to Howie too.
Hi Bob,

I think to fight the spread we need to refocus our mindset a little. It is natural we think of protecting ourself first. You see most comments reflect the "protecting me" mindset. Is this mask going to "protect me" from getting infection for example. The question that should also be asked is if I sneeze, having a mask covering my face will help protecting the virus to others by how much. Would a guy at the 5 meter away from me have less chance of getting the virus than me with no mask?

The mindset that would greatly help "protecting me" is actually the "help protecting you" mindset because if others help protecting you, you will be safer for sure. Mask is just one small thing among many other that we need to be socially responsible. Ask anyone here if he/she thinks going to get infected. The answer is no but not sure. I don't even know if I am infected right now. So when I cannot avoid Interacting with other people at work or when I have to go out in public place, I try to behave myself in such a way that poses less risk to others in getting infection from me. If every one does this the virus will be gone by Summer like Wisnon predicted.

You are doing good to other people Bob.

Wish you best health,
Tang

This is much more serious than you guys think. You will see in a week time.

I have already changed how my office works (I have 15 people in the office). I have divided my emploees into two teems - one is in the office and the second team is working from their homes (I cannot send everyone home, unfortunately). The teams change every week.

I hear you Tang but according to your theorem everyone should be wearing a mask if you think it is a matter of social responsibility as we are always sneezing and coughing. I cannot disagree with your feelings. It is indeed social responsibility to take this seriously. I guess our CDC is misleading us because there is a shortage of masks....there is for sure.I 'm not knocking it Tang. As a physician I can tell you that I have the highest degree of social responsibility and I take this pandemic very seriously and that the CDC is one of the best in the world IMHO. Let's see if they have an about face about this in the very near future because if indeed there is merit they will advise it

Iran too?
Why no serious cases?

Hi Tang,

It's 8:00 AM in Bangkok where you are right now.. Here it's 6:00 PM Pacific time.

Everything you've just wrote above; I'm 100% with you.

I stopped thinking about myself a long time ago, I put myself in other's shoes.
It's tough sometimes because I feel all the injustice many suffer, and I suffer with them.
It's a long journey that brought me where I am today. I'm not the only one, they are few of us.

To be fair, considerate, compassionate, understanding, ...is an art to master from the heart.

Iran too?
Why no serious cases?

Iran has already recorded 354 deaths among 9,000 cases. Those are yesterday's #s.

Yes, agreed, but listen to what both of them said today. That's what I was saying that if you listen to what one said yesterday and what one said today, there was a difference. Although there is a big difference in everyone's acceptance of the situation today. It all seems to change every few hours. I think they all now know..... we're in for a long ride and nobody can deny it at this point.

We all have different perspectives, depending on what we are exposed to via on-line, the media etc. No doubt there are a bundle of confusing messages especially when you get into the testing kits, differences between what feds and locals are saying. That's just the way it's probably going to be. BUT I think most now understand that the highest level that we are in for a rough ride. That's just my opinion, nothing more or even that it's correct, just my assessment of what I have garnered but what I have been exposed to over the last month.

I can't help but feel that Italy, Iran, Sth Korea and China have different diseases. Why did Italy cases explode and front runners like Japan, Thailand and Singapore didn't????
Is it possible the figures are not accurate?

The hospitals in northern Italy are on the brink of colapse. They are already in many cases not accepting people over 80 into the ICUs (prioritizing younger peole, with higher chances of survival and greater life expectancy), which means many older people are just left in their homes to die.

They have one of the oldest populations in the world.

This is exactly why it is super important to flatten the curve, even if all of us are gonna get the virus eventually.
