And how do you feel about this? You were quite negative yesterday towards the USA for doing something not as severe as this.

Me !?

You are mistaken. I have told you a week ago to brace yourselves, as the virus is coming and US government was NOT doing enough. In fact, many of my posts critisizing US authorities for not doing enough have been deleted as political.

I have bought N95 masks, gloves, sanitizers and 4 weeks of food supply back in late January. And I told everyone to do the same. Most of the people radiculated me.

Yes, you. You can see at post #866.

Ah, you are talking about the travel ban. It is useless. It was just a PR stunt, nothing else. All scentists were shaking their heads in disbelief.

It should be complete. If you let some people in then you are letting in some infected people.

I think anything and everything that happened yesterday is long gone by now.
The speed we are living @ today is simply too fast for us to handle.
...Just too much over our head.

Plus there is zero use to criticize among ourselves, less than zero.
We are in it all together equally.
Just brace ourselves for what's coming ...

National emergency declared in Poland
All borders closed, Polish nationals coming back to be quarantined for 14 days.
All gatherings over 50 banned
Schools, malls, gyms, restaurants, bars etc - all closed.
Restrictions on # of people who can get into a grocery store or pharmacy.

# of cases: 70+
# of deaths: 1
Population 38 mil
I wish our country was smart enough to do this. (Australia)

This thing is moving so fast it is worse than trying to hit a moving target. Hindsight is such an easy thing, isn't it

Having said that we are all in this together so let's keep politics out of all of this and dwell on what all of us can do together as well as for us and our loved ones

I have no gripes. Mike called it correctly from the epicenter when he said it's going to get every state. I was home most of yesterday and I watched the entire state literally close downing in a matter of hours

Boris is playing it differently in the UK. It seems the advice is not to "distance" just yet. Organisations are voluntarily shutting down, like all soccer matches, and many other gatherings, concerts etc are cancelling/postponing. But schools etc staying open.

It seems that the gamble is on the populace developing herd immunity, and relying on people doing their civic duty re self quarantining if becoming ill.

However this must be predicated on "accepting" a proportion of older people or those immuno supressed, or w respiratory conditions, will struggle/not make it.

A huge gamble by our govt.

So you want to have 49 people standing out side of every grocery store and pharmacy?

In Italy and China, people in lines outside the shops are spaced at least 2m apart. Search on social media. Lots of pics.

I went to Whole Foods in Boulder around 2:30 today. Lots of people there for the middle of the day, some things were sold out and more were close, but I was told the food deliveries are for the most part on schedule and many things would be restocked later this evening.

Nobody wearing masks at all, no panic, but everyone is stocking up. It makes sense there's more demand as I'm sure many are planning on avoiding restaurants.

I keep 30 days of nitrogen packed survival food around, doubt I'll need it but I'm not regretting the investment right now!

Do you have a bunker to Dave ?;)

My audio room is stocked with 38 bottles of red wine, 44 bottles of beer, a few liters of vodka, a box of Cohibas, 46,864 tracks on the server, 9 years of vacuum tubes, and 42 rolls of toilet paper. So I’m in good shape. I’m 3 meters from the speakers but sometimes those damn vocalists get too close to me. At least they don’t spit.;)

This is a big call. It seems to be one of the two responses evolving.

You can choose to run a predator model (competitive and sacrificial) or a herd model (collaborative and more defensive).

The herd model is to form a strong ring around the vulnerable and protect them... which is more the way of countries closing down early to take a defensive position through isolation to protect the population en masse.

To go more towards business as usual (kind of) and allow the virus to play out (if this the actual intention) is a model about developing natural (?) strength by letting go of the vulnerable and strengthening your position and allowing (a kind) of more removed from responsibility culling (is this natural selection or is this strategic selection) and so evolving to protecting the line by reducing your numbers. I suppose this is also what triage protocols essentially lead to. These choices are beyond my pay grade in terms of knowing outcomes but we can still ask ourselves as members of human kind about the ethical choices being made now at this point in the development of the crisis.

If your understanding of the position over there is correct Marc it seems Australia is also going this way at the moment and this isn’t a herd model this is more a model of how a predator species is more likely to behave. Potentially sacrificing the vulnerable in the favour of the strong. Developing strength by favouring the dominant and this is more likely to be supported by those who don’t view themselves as vulnerable.

Going towards the less regulated response and playing out natural selection (if this is actually what is happening) is a very big ethics choice. Globally we need to look to our inner compass and review ourselves at this point as clear new policy is being made after the initial assessments gathered from early experience in the first hot spots. A lot of lives are in play here, big choices for those in power and history will look back on the choices made by every nation right now and I suppose some will be proven right and others will be proven (very) wrong.

I have no crystal balls here but I can’t align myself at all with an idea of risking sacrificing so much of our vulnerable people so very early on in our understanding of this threat. I also wish my country was playing it more safe at this point.

In the global picture Europe is right now the epicenter ...

IMHO all of that won't save you; in couple days when you run out of milk and go to town to get it you might get more than you bargain for ...

Or next time your grand daughter visit you ...
