Coronavirus ...

From April 12, 2009 to April 10, 2010, CDC estimated there were 60.8 million cases (range: 43.3-89.3 million), 274,304 hospitalizations (range: 195,086-402,719), and 12,469 deaths (range: 8868-18,306) in the United States due to the (H1N1)pdm09 virus.

Where was the mass hysteria in 2009?
No not at all and no US governmental action was taken until 1000 Americans died. Cooler heads prevailed, there was no hoarding of supplies and no one went into hiding, no shut downs of anything, just being smart about it. The difference in that virus is it affected children more than adults.

As Sting said on my all time favorite Police album.

Too much information running through my brain
Too much information driving me insane
Too much information running through my brain
Too much information driving me insane

Obviously he had social media figured out long before we even knew about it.

Time for parallel "news" headlines.

"Today, X number of people were tested +ve for Corona, and Y people died, now making Z total"
--
"And in other news, today, A number of people were tested +ve for influenza, and B people died, now making a C total since Corona was identified".

I think what we see happening all over the world now is just normal; that is truly a nasty sunnabaggun virus this Corona thing. Older people aren't happy about it, and younger people keep making jokes. What is there to do?

Ghost In The Machine...highly apt since we're taking viruses.

i read on the news today there were fights in the supermarket over toilet paper in holland:)

There have been multiple incidents of people fighting in supermarkets here over toilet paper. I finished second in toilet paper supermarket toilet paper cage fighting over the weekend... nobody gave 2 sheets.

Whoops first rule of toilet paper club, nobody talks about toilet paper club.

And the guy you thought was hoarding the stuff is in fact you.

Where the heck are you coming from Folsom.
Get all your personal hatred and spread it with blood all over my dead body.
Come back Bob.

Here is an analysis from a Mentor to an epidemiologist who lives and works in South Africa. He is not working on Covid but other infectious diseases

Here is the link to the author https://www.globalhealthdelivery.org/ghdi/faculty/william-rodriguez

IMHO grounds for cautious optimism

I have another 7 days of self isolation to go here in the South of France, before I can return to Monaco. This is because I was in Holland and Germany a week ago

Stay healthy everyone

The two major supermarket chains are side by side at our local centre. One has limits set on the lines that are in short supply and the other doesn’t. I go to the one that has the limits set because I believe that is the more responsible chain. The supermarket without limits was absolutely beyond madly packed on Saturday and the one next door with the limits imposed was much closer to business as usual volume of shoppers. Marc it went crazy here earlier with the shops because Australia typically runs just two days of food security. It seems though that the more ravenous hoards are turned off by reasonable limits. Much saner in a shop that is attempting to in some ways regulate the current panic. I figure the other chain running without limits on anything that they have in stock is just going for competitive advantage.

Any citizens left w shedloads of toilet rolls once this crisis is over should be obliged to eat their stash in public. Good source of fibre.
