Fender Car Stereo?

Anyone seen the new VW commercial featuring their Passat with a Fender car stereo system? This strikes me as odd since Fender is not in the business of making home or car audio. Fender has obviously licensed their name to some other OEM who actually makes car stereo systems.

I own a 2006 Passat (with the 3.6L engine thank you) that has a good stereo with the optional Dynaudio speakers. That makes sense to me since Dynaudio is a high-end brand that makes great speakers and I was happy that they were an option. Fender is primarily known for their guitars and amplifiers. I wonder who VW is trying to appeal to by offering Fender stereo systems?

I have and agree it is a very odd choice. It is not a household name.

I think the creative for the commercial is poor too. I can't figure out the angle they had in mind.

Aside from the fact that they are trading off of the Fender name, I don't know the angle either. It would appear that VW is hoping that the Fender name will ring with those that don't know about high-end audio brands, but would recognize the Fender name and assume it must be something special.

Odd fit for VW, odd fit for Fender. FWIW, the Fender name now belongs to a corporation and is not affiliated with anyone named Fender or the original musical instrument company.

You say the Fender name belongs to a corporation. I assume that's the corporation that makes Fender guitars and amps.
