Gamut M250i mono blocks vs ???

Hello to all,
to deliver another praise of Michael at @musiklab and his work over here. Namely, I have recently sent my two GamuT M250 mk3 monoblocks to Michael (which were over 20 years old) for repair as well an upgrade to the latest version of his amplifier modifications. Michael not only executed the job professionally and swiftly, but communicated with me all along the process, making some important suggestions. In the end, what I received went completely beyond my expectations. The amplifiers have gained incredible precision and control, with a lower noise floor, a higher linearity, and overall an extended musicality. Some of the instruments that I always found somewhat awkward in terms of lifelike musical reproduction in my system -- such as the percussive resonance of the piano – suddenly gained a timbral accuracy and a "realism" which I did not expect these amplifiers were capable of. At the same time, the entirety of the musical spectrum, from very low to very high, gained an extended depth and presence. The separation of instruments also increased tremendously, as did the the subtleness of dynamic clues. The amplifiers are simply a pure joy to listen to now. And Michael's work indeed seems as a must for all GamuT owners.

NRZO , thanks ,
I am deeply flattered with your reaction to the work on the M250´s,
-So much so, I am considering fitting some heavy duty heatsinks to my glowing ears...

Great news: I am now making and offering the D1 Pre, the line preamp I really wanted for myself, to enhance and complete my D220´s and M300´s with a luminous and neutral sound, and create a major uplift to the leqacy D200 and M250, still performlng out there since many years.

My idea: is to continue making the musiklab D220 (new, improved D200 ) and upgrade as many of the legacy M250´s and D200´s as I can lay my hands on.
These, even very old ones, really deserve to be kept running and fit, and when upgraded, they will keep challenging the very best. I think of them as fine musical instruments like master violins, made to perform, please and serve for generations.

The current D200 / D220 Users also wish to enjoy this sound indefinitely, only time takes its toll, so after servicing for a decade or two, a major service and upgrade to longlife specifications can extend the service life to another stretch of decades. Look to the 2´hand market of the D200 / M250 -
My New Year motto:
Whatever comes, great music helps.
Be kind, always. Michael.

Hi nrzo,
Nice post! I just purchased a pair of M250 monoblocks in Europe that Michael is in process of converting to 120 volt and performing same upgrades. After communicating with him, I'm certain the results will be equal to yours. Actually will be selling my recently acquired great sounding GamuT D200 MKlll dual mono amp while awaiting the big brothers. Any current or future GamuT amp purchasers should likewise consider having Michael do his upgrade magic. Curious, what preamp are you using with the M250's and which dip switch sensitivity/gain settings? I also just acquired an Audio Research LS28SE preamp which hopefully will be a perfect match with the amps when they arrive.
Best,
David

PS--should add I'm also currently breaking in a pair of Pure Audio Project Quintet 10's with Heil Tweeters. Fantastic so far and once broken in, will look into upgrading wiring and possibly some crossover parts. Pair of Velodyne servo subs not yet hooked up to extend bottom end. The Harmony LAiV dac (their new re-clocker on the way), Aurender N10 and Shanling ET3 transport work nicely together on front end. Recently added Kubala-Sosna Fascination speaker cables and balanced interconnects. K-S power cords in the future, plus possibly better USB & I2S cables as well (TBD).
