GG, Nagra HD, Aqua Formula, and SGM server.

Hi Comedus
Have been using the unpowered Sablon 2017 for 3 weeks now going from a LPS1 powered Microrendu to Lampizator Atlantic. Absolutely delightful cable this is - easily improved upon a Wireworld platinum and Lampi's Silver Shadow cables I also have. Mark is a pleasure to deal with.

Is the Lampi Silver Shadow cable you have, a regular USB cable with power-and signal lead or is it a powerless, signal only cable?
Can you elaborate in what aspects the Sablon 2017 unpowered USB cable betters your Lampi USB cable?

I have a question for all owners of the SGM.......

Amongst everything I have read about the unit and as I become more interested in it and all of its virtues I have yet to read anyone's comments about it's function as a streamer. Does anyone use it to stream and can you comment on its abilities to do such. Also if you stream music via Tidal or others, can you also upsample and convert to DXD via the Aqua Formula

Hi Steve, I fall in that camp as I stream almost exclusively from Tidal. I have the SGM hooked up to an Apple airport wifi router and the signal is then upsampled to DSD512. It works as seamlessly as an Auralic Aries and the HQ Player are easily accessed should you feel the need via the VNC app on ipad. Feel free to drop me a PM / email if you want to chat further.

It is stunning as a streamer. The fidelity of Tidal @ 512 is really quite something. Seriously takes streaming to a whole new level.

+1 on that
I've been lucky enough to listen at least once a fortnight over the last few months to Blue58's early experiences streaming Tidal at 512 thru HQP of the SGM
Gosh, even for a computer dummy like me totally averse to interacting w an I Pad, it's kids stuff
I remain in awe of the ease of use, intuitive interface, and instant nr SOTA sq, I never miss lp spinning when I'm at Barry's
We pick a new album, load it up
In seconds it's playing at top spec

yes.

in my case, I'm streaming Tidal at 352/384 PCM into the Aqua Formula through the HQ Player in the SGM.

I'm not much of a Tidal listener just yet, although I do it some. sounds very good but I need to use it more to comment in depth.

When I auditioned the SGM, we only played Tidal. And it was suitably impressive nonetheless! The fact that you can load music onto the SGM itself might just be a bonus for some, as they can use Tidal for the Redbook stuff, and just use the SGM's storage for the hires/DSD.

Hi
The Lampi Silver Shadow is a regular powered USB cable AFAIK (I feel rather stupid not being able to confirm this 100%!).
In terms of performance with the Sablon, I perceive a lower noise floor, more bass with more definition compared to the Lampi. Compared to the WW, the highs are a lot more pleasing as well. My system is sufficiently resolving (HQP upsampling to DSD128-->LPS1 powered Microrendu-->Lampi Atlantic-->Vitus Integrated-->Magico S1MkII) to notice differences (I think!) and so you get some context around my experience.
HTH,
Cheers

I actually have the older powered Silver Shadow and the newer UNpowered copper coloured USB cable. I have not had a chance to test the difference yet, but the unpowered one worked nicely in Liechtenstein. My Transports are in flux at the moment and these cables are too short (1.5m). Mark's USB cable is well priced and with good feedback!

Exactly how I use the SGM2015.

HiRes and albums not on Tidal, ripped using XLD, reside on the internal storage. Once you delve into Roon it's amazing how you can simply add to your library further discovered artists and music. My once 2K CD collection is now a 4K+ Tidal library.

What is interesting too is how superior Tidal streaming SQ is to most CD rips and just how poor some supposedly HiRes albums sound compared to the equivalent CD rip from a superior mastering. A case in point is the ubiquitous Diana Krall, The Look of Love in 192/24 vs XRCD rip. Tidal version sitting somewhere between.

With some new settings within HQPlayer I'm once again achieving the best sound from my system. No doubt there is more to come. In fact I KNOW there is.

Hi Blue

Do you have the Krall album in DSD as well? I am pretty sure I ripped that SACD...
and yes, the XRCD will sound better than a lot of the bogus "hires" out there with undisclosed provenace.

I had the SHM SACD which sounded very soft on my AA Lafontaine so seldom played it. Both now sold BTW.
Until hearing the SGM2015 and T+A I always thought DSD sounded soft and preferred PCM but 512 has shown that you can have the best of both worlds.
Blue58

I can testify to Barry's sentiments
The number of times he plays me Hi
Rez downloads and the sound is lacking pizazz, pcm from Tidal as is, and upped to 512/HQP, a revelation in comparison

DSD does not sound soft native rate on my Chipless engine. I get that most people have not really heard DSD done right.

Has anyone used any of the lampi komputer models? any idea how they compare to the SGM. The Lampi runs on linux which Lukasz thinks is superior to windows. I have found Linux has produced a better quality of sound than Windows or Mac, having experimented with various computer OS in Mac mini, macbook pro, dell etc. I currently use a self built fanless Linux server with my GG. I have found the SQ difference between Jriver and HQp is less when running on linux than on windows.

I know the SGM runs on a windows platform, is that to be compatible with roon?
