Gian's system - Vyger-Opus vs Techdas AF3, SAT+Lyra Lambda

Mike, Marty will tell you that one of his main reasons for buying Lampi was that when he had visited you he partially preferred it to your analog

The Aqua formula stands fifth or sixth in jazzhead's digital collection (i compared 4 and it would be 3 or 4 with trinity).

There is a guy I know who preferred the Atlantic to his aqua formula.

you know a lot of guys. i did have 'one of' the Atlantic's for a weekend. i would not have agreed with that guy.

i did have the Trinity 4 years ago now, with the GG, then the Formula. all the time sampling other digital at shows. i was searching. part of searching was fitting my digital into my system properly.

Larry toy has 15000 Decca and EMI originals and many tapes and enjoys his Lampi, that says a lot. He bought it used to try, and was provided great service on it (as the used product is backed ) and he also got a great trade in from GG to Pac. He has been attending classical concerts since the 60s and his wife is an expert pianist, he has ensembles playing at his place, owns two Bosendorfers and he and his daughter play viola

no doubt the Pacific is top notch. the question for me would be preference in the context of my system. as my main listening choice and fully complementary to my system. if i ever have one in my system i would then know about that.

The Trinity was the one that competed at Jazzhead's for the bottom. Recently I received a compare video of trinity phono vs Aries cerat phono, and the Trinity totally destroyed the sound, same signature as the digital.

Ked, easy, steady, big fella.

where are we going here? the Trinity has been gone for 4 years. the Formula for 2 and 1/2. i prefer something to Lampi and you go into swarm mode. i'm an established Lampi lover who just happens to prefer something else in my particular system.

i was just minding my own business responding to Brian's post mostly agreeing with him, and this tornado came through the thread and here we are.

No I am just saying. The reason you don't like Lampi in your system is I don't think valves work in your system. But trinity and aqua imo are poor digital and trinity seems that way all round. so I don't even like them in the same breath. MSB total dac, neodio are all fine.

Ked, I don't think that's quite accurate. I was certainly impressed in a memorable way (which is unavoidable when you visit Mike), but not for pure sonics over his TT rig. What impressed me most was that it was the first time I heard digital piano playback sound really compelling (Moravec/Beethoven) coupled with the ability of having someone hand you a tablet and then tell you to pick basically anything you want to play and then have it come effortlessly through the speaker. That experience opened up possibilities that I would come to take advantage of several years later once Lampi evolved to their present capabilities. (Recall the earlier versions still required the tedium of manually switching between PCM and DSD which was a non-starter for me).

Marty, I said " partially" because you had mentioned some aspects you preferred more when you described to me

i sure love my tubed CS Port C3EQM2 phono. fantastic. perfect fit in my system.

3-1-2,
2 is way more polite and lacks dynamics.
3 is the most emotional
So, koetsu coralstone vs Lyra lambda vs airtight Opus on SAT on Techdas.

Rank the links on pagannini

1.

2.

1) Didn't like this one at all, to my tastes, the voice sounds a tad bloated, I also didn't like the reproduction of sibilants, a tad "glossy".

2) This may be the one that represents the voice in a more accurate manner, but I also feel is a bit "gray" sounding, specially around sibilants, it somewhat manages to sound very vivid in general but a tad gray at the same time in the highs in my opinion.

3) I love this one, at first listen I was making weird hand gestures, like a failed opera conductor. Listening more to it, I liked how present the voice is without being bloated, sibilants were very natural and smooth for my tastes. Very coherent, yet solid sound. My favorite by far.

My order of preferences would be: 3>2>1

PS: I'm not an expert listener, far from it, this is just my opinion, which I wanted to share. Many thanks to @gian60 for recording the videos, what a nice place you have :)

1) Incredible, it manages to convey the body of the instruments and the dynamic range, while not being sharp when reproducing the highest notes of the violins. Would listen for hours.

2) Lacks body, it also doesn't sound as coherent or wholesome as #1. Gives the impression of more detail at first, but in my opinion it just sounds thin and a tad washed out, specially while reproducing the highest notes of the violin.

3) Highs are a tad spitty, also gives the impression of being more dynamic than #1, but on a second listen it sounds a tad more "exaggerated", is like a slight hump in the lower mids is always there.

My preference would be: 3>1>2

Again, just my humble opinion.

For pagannini, I prefer 3, then 2. I is a distant last because it sounds dead to me.

3 is Opus, 2 is lambda, 1 is the koetsu.

On vocals, 1 is Opus, 2 is again lambda, 3 is koetsu.

Here is another Opus violin

LOL I'm cursed, liked the Koetsu the most on both songs hahaha
I need to up my financial game immediately, for one of the two following reasons:

A) Koetsu love!
B) Ear surgery, so I can be happy with something 1/20 as expensive ;)

Thanks for uploading the videos, I had a great time listening to them!

Marty, Ked can not only tell you what you had, but how much you liked it, and whether you were right or wrong to have liked it.

Ok, here's Lyra atlas lambda on Vyger vs on Techdas AF3 premium and SAT.

Hint: listen through the piece. If required familiarize yourself with the piece. Do you find continuity with one while listening, and more nuance? The tone is not going to be the decider here as it is the same cart.
