Golden Gate DAC arrives.

What are your stock valves Bruce? 101D, 300bs, will provide very different presentations, as will PX4 and others. Also rectis.

WE replica 101D.... for now! I've already ordered some replica 300b tubes.

I'm listening to it this morning and it sounds much better than right out of the box, that's for sure!

Thank-you sir! So just a generic one and not one specific to the GG? Ok.. So the button on the front is a Stand by??

It's only been playing 2-3hr and it sounds "alright". Nothing to write home about. I'm sure the sound will change over the next month or so. It's got a ways to go, that's for sure. The main thing is it sounds so thin with no body. I'll keep it running 24x7 until RMAF

On the GG, front button is stand-by. DSD, PCM and input changes are done through remote.

Break in is long and it seems to help to completely turn off the unit to fully discharge everything every once in a while.

I think the GGs always come with Psvane WE replica 101Ds and EML 274b recti.

Only 300B and 101ds are working for the Bal GG. 2A3 and 45 are far too hot! Over 20watt heat dissipation.
PX4 ( 11.2 watts) will be just a bit hotter than the 101d and 300b, which are both 8.5 to 9w heat dissipation.

I dont see a screen, so Bruce does not have the preamp (vol control) version. Thus, he wont have a remote and the front button will be the DSD to PCM toggle, I suspect.

BRUCE, RTFM to see how. LoL

Last question, what brand 300B replicas do you order?

Manual states:

If you feel that you MUST try other tubes – we need to pre-authorize it in writing. Otherwise you loose the warranty, sorry.

So how many people have done this?

Good catch Norman. Thank you for the correction.

Bruce I am so happy you have a golden gate for yourself
Enjoy
I do not know what tubes you ordered but I can Recomend the ps vane WE300 as good 300 B full sounding tube
I have them and the 101d as well

Thanks.... the unit came with the Psvane WE replica 101D. I've already ordered the Psvane WE 300b replicas and I'll order the KR Audio 300b tubes later to try.

The tubes I have tried that were what felt better and again that's opinion. We're the ELrogs
Also the eml anniversary globes but they are a 45 not a 300 B. The 101 D is a breaking tube in detail and accuracy but I like a little more weight as Ina 45 or 300 B.
Let us know how it goes I love reading your reviews as it's something I can truly be leave in
Again I am half for you.
Ina side note do you owns regen ? If not order one it's an improvement well worth the 175 bucks

I think you shouldn't be trying this so soon. Takes time for this to sound better, for you to get comfortable with your favorite valves, then to check the impact of regen. Also, at least on B7, power cords and supports make a big diff

I am not sure what you use to feed the GG dac
If it's a laptop you will be wow for sure. But it even made a obvious improvement from one of my servers
It was a 3.5 Xeon cpu with win 2012 and AO 1.4 all as drives and linear psu. It was not a leap but obvious as I installed it and removed it.
Good luck

Right now I'm using a MacBook/JRiver and will be taking it to RMAF. After that, I'll be using one of my DAW's with Pyramix.

As I am sure your decerning ears are far better than mine sit back and enjoy the show and please post your thoughts

Supports? Do you mean stillpoints, etc? Which ones have you tried successfully?

Bonzo is sponsored by Shun Mooks. Some say that his door handle is made by Shun Mook....

So is Bill - he has 42 Shun mook mpingo discs and is planning to get a mook frame for his whole GG.

But yes, dminches, I will never use stillpoints again, having owned them previously, and compared them in various systems to shun mooks. This is for components only and I haven't tried them under speakers. To get more info on shun mooks, you can ask other lampi users like Bill, there is a lampi dealer here named Robert (forget his id), and the UK lampi distributor (who is not on here). Audiocrack and cuntigh also use mooks though under non lampi components (I don't think Audiocrack has got one for his GG yet). Spiritofmusic is also into them

Robert Stanley? And Greg in the UK.

I heard that Mooks are very good, but never tried them.
