Golden Gate DAC arrives.

totally agree.

2xdsd + vinyl = pleasure.

Funny you guys should say that. I was only extolling the virtues of double dsd vinyl archival to a couple of friends over the weekend. This was achieved with my Tascam DA-3000 - bargain of the century.

+1... much better than my modified MR2000s

Where did you get them from Bill?

Hi,

I got them from Lukasz as they came with my Golden Gate but we're on back order.

Well I owe you one Bruce since it was you who recommended it to me. The Horus was too much for an amateur recorder like me.

The Tascam better than the Korg? That is good news as it is cheaper and still available. However, the Tascam is filled with opamps on the input and not great power supplies, clocks, etc. Imagine how much better it would sound if you replaced those op amps with discrete circuits or zero feedback buffers/transformers and modified the crap out of it!

If there was someone in the UK that would mod mine, I would be all over it. There is a word clock input on it also.

Don't talk about mods on this thread. You will be banished :) Or maybe mods are okay, as long as there not Lampi mods. I'm not sure, trying to figure out still.

Hi all,

Well a brand new pair of Kr PX-4 tubes arrived this morning and straight out the box they are the best tubes I own. They have the super 3D effect like a 300b but with a lot more resolution even than my 101d. The bass is very hefty and vocals are spooky real. Just started with the Eml 274b recti but will try others later.

Unlike other tubes made for radio and stiff, px25 is the only one specifically made for music. The px4 is a lower power variant. The 25 is also used in thrax Spartacus

That, that is the banishing, only applies to members who are not able to behave themselves.

I like the Thrax amps a lot. Great into Tannoy Kingdom Royal Carbon Edition with an MSB DAC.

The EML 274B I used to think was good but these days I just can't keep it in the system, no matter how hard I try. Didn't like their non-mesh 45 much either. I much prefer the pseudo mesh plate cheaper TJ 274B effort.

As for sourcing KR valves in the UK it doesn't seem easy. I ended up talking to a Russian to source them today. Unsure whether to go for it.

Got a pair of TJ 2A3 on the way, since I like their 274B.

Does anyone know if Audio Emotion really do deal them in the UK?

PX25 is not suitable for a Lampi. PX4 is.

Sourcing them in the UK is pretty easy for golden eared audiophiles. Let me know which ones you are looking for

I have something on auction at the moment and if it makes a good price I'll be in touch.

What are you after Justin? I would highly recommend the Kr Px-4.

Bill
What have you compared the px4 to so far?

The 101d regular and we replica, eml 45 mesh, Kr 242, gold lions 300b, Kr 300b balloon, and 32b. PX4 fave so far but I think it is so important to say that this in the context of my system. I don't believe that there is a solution that will suit everyone - that is the beauty of the Lampi.

Exactly that. Rusky chappie quoted $850.

The KR 242 is no longer made but apparently they will make some if you ask.

What is your 2nd fave Bill?

I would say 101d for the large scale classical stuff I like as long as it is balanced with a smooth recti. 101d + fast / detailed recti is too much in my system thus needs balancing. For jazz, I like the eml 45 mesh as it has terrific bloom on sax and is smooth as. The 242 were not compatible with my GG as they over drove the output stage but they worked terrifically in Ked's big 7 - in fact they made the big 7 come closer to GG. I have ordered the eml 45 globe mesh anniversary too. I need to get the Elrogs also...

There is a Lampi version 242 with the correct base (no adapter needed) but they are hard to get. KR does not have a lot of stock, but they also make PX04 for Lampis too.
The one to watch out for is the EML Anniversary MESH 45 globe. Should have been ready by now, but EML is slow. The Solid plate Anniv Globes are among the top 3 by the people who tried em all, so the mesh should be da bomb.
