Golden Gate DAC arrives.

I noticed on the Lampi site that the Big 7 has this new r2r engine also. Would it be possible to have an existing Big 7 updated to this new r2r engine? Maybe someone here knows, otherwise I will contact Lampizator myself.

Yes - they will happily do the upgrade for you. Not sure what the fee is for it but it is worth it.

Thanks for your reply. This could be interesting for me.

The big 7 has a great PCM engine in standard form but this is like it has been fitted with a supercharger and put into race condition.

As Marc says - yes I do indeed have the latest r2r engine. It is wonderful and a huge leap over the original PCM. I have been listening to it solidly for the last 2 days. I have to admit that I keep smiling at what I am hearing from bog standard red book. It is so fast and dynamic but with all the musicality you get from the dsd engine. With the 300b, the combination is just right for my tastes - you get a healthy balance of resolution, sped, dynamics, and oodles of musicality.

Yes, the current pcm mode is much, much better than the previous one. As I mentioned before on this thread, I was not very fond of the former pcm application in the GG dac and it really paled in comparison to the (pcm only) Trinity combo. However, there is still something very odd going on with my Lampi GG dac/server combo, that is something is not functioning as it should. Therefore I am not able yet to draw any final conclusions whether the GG can compete with the Trinity. That said there is no doubt at all in my mind that upgrading to the current pcm application is money very well spend.

What issues have you got, Rudolph?

As I already posted I have my B7 upgraded to r2r engine for one month. The signal is stronger than the previous version and Lukasz confirmed that this is approx 5 V.
It means that I need less power in my SET amplifier , as a result the sound is less distorted. The engine makes possible to play DXD files ie up to 24/384 kHz with outstanding resolution and smoothness. The former one did not play it properly.
Together with Aurender W20 in powerless usb mode it gives the spectacular results : very palpable , meaty and resolved sound with beatiful timbre and articulation.Worth every zloty:)
If I may estimate the improvement in % which is always tricky, I would say 20-30 % better. Now I like hirez pcm as much as native DSD from my B7 .

I lack soundstage depth, Bill, and the presentation in the lower mids is too powerful which results in a unnatural forcefull presentation. Something I experienced in the past as well but I thought this issue was solved but apparently that is not the case.

Did you try a standard cd transport into the GG to rule out computer settings?

Have not one available at the moment. I indeed suspect something might be wrong with the server.

AC, I still think you should play the trinity in the same system as the lampi so you can identify the cause...soundstage is definitely a lampi strength so if you are not getting it, there is something wrong with the set up, possibly the server setting like Bill said, or something else

Just had Kedar (bonzo) around armed with 3000 (LOL) Shun Mooks and some KR 300Bs. Not so sure about the Mooks but the KR valve does sound very good.

Which Kr 300b - the balloons? Did he bring the recti too?

His is an older model, and uses a different recti, not like ours. He was one of the first guys to buy it. No, not balloons. Normal ones, which came with my vac. The mook resonators made a big difference which he heard but is ashamed to admit because apparently he studied computers like 40 years ago

I dunno you let the man into your house, treat him well and all you get is cheek! 40 years indeed!

The KR 242 did not work in the Big 7 I have as indeed the spec indicated.

My Big 7 does not use 274B as I asked for it not to. My preamp contains 274Bs. It is one of the very first hard wired Big 7s. If I am blatantly honest I thought the two box original level 7 was very, very fractionally better, but did not have the flexibility of switching triode types, so I went for the Big 7 unheard. Not a bad decision.

I have just put two EML 274B barely used rectifiers on ebay should anyone want them. Probably not worth it for US buyers who do not have to pay European sales tax, so they are listed for Europeans only.

Has anyone heard the new Lampizator anniversary 45 mesh tubes on the GG yet? Lampizator very recently started distributing them.

Nobody has heard the anniv mesh 45s as they never existed before...only the solid plates. However, based on how much better the mesh is for the regular eml 45...everyone is expectant.

I suppose Lukasz has beard them in combination with the GG. And he has started shipping them to the GG customers, right?

Check out Lampizator's Facebook page. Tube Smuggler. Can't tell if they are getting picked up or being dropped off for shipping. Hate to think what an accident would do.
