Ok...

I'll get the ball rolling. What is everyone's (owned) reference loudspeaker?

Peter-It's hard to argue against your choice. The more that I hear MBL speakers, the more that I love them. I just wish I could afford them.

Mine is a one-off customized set of MartinLogans in a custom-designed and treated room. It is a reference system more than just a 'speaker'.

But if I had to pick, I'd say my Monoliths, seen in this panoramic view of the front of the room. BTW- Those are custom acoustic treatments along the sidewalls with some MartinLogan panels integrated as part of the decor.

Much more about this setup at this thread here on WBF.

There are many good speakers, but to me, a reference needs to be fit to it's environment to truly deliver.

Steve: Is that your new listening room? I am looking forward to your review and all the 'thinking' that went into building your room from scratch to finish...I am curious to know what criteria were used for selecting your audio engineer/expert ?

Whatever speaker/system one is most used to is invariably his personal reference. Reference is this case being the literal meaning as opposed to the one that is applied as a reference standard.

Say you are trying to evaluate recordings, that would be harder to do without a well defined context. In my case I usually get to try LPs and CDs before I buy. That is just one of many reasons.
