Thank you for your wonderful post @Alrainbow. I don't know who you are but I appreciate your words and enthusiasm. And love that you can slip in and out unnoticed but with full notes.
Can't wait to hear more. Thanks for taking the time to describe. Enjoy the show and, of course, all pics and vids are welcome.
Patiently awaiting the Horizon's journey to replace the Pacific here.
So I’m at expona
no one knows me so I can ask easy questions and get honest answers
I made it twice into the room where the H dac is
it’s a big room but seating is reasonably close
I’ll comment tomorrow on all electronics in better details
the tt was playing sounded good not great but had a nice analog sound
I took some picks of the H dAC it has the kt170 tubes
and a tak 274b recti oddly it look familiar thats a dig to a bud
for anyone who had one on order
any thoughts if I hope it’s good or I hope I made the right decision can be answered
I kindly asked the man to play the h dac or when will it be played
he said we play it all day but rotate a tt snd tape deck
it’s all vac but speakers I don’t know name.
All can say for now was holy xxx wow xxx
far above his ttt or tape deck
It made the room morph into a real jazz venue
from drums to strings to top end
it had crazy dynamics and ultra details yet not a hint it was digital
it truly blew my mind
I got pics and videos
it Truly is way above any lampi I heard but more importantly it had all the virtues of top SS dacs but all the glory of top end tube sound.
it’s simple music that creates an event in front of you. this is a game changing event in sound that at the end is a mic drop.
and for those who think the H dac needs an ultra expensive server well I’m not so sure
it’s source was aurender n30
a solid steamer but not 40 to 140 k lol.
Heard Steve's Horizon/Taiko Extreme last week (see my post elsewhere). Best digital I have experienced! Not ready to stop spinning vinyl but it was that good

I have found throughout my life that some of my best and longest friendships have come from meeting fellow audiophiles. Yesterday was just one of those days. I have been friends with Damon Von Schweikert and Leif Swanson for many years. I have travelled to their factory many times and listened...
Well, we were at Axpona today and agree the Horizon brings digital to a place where it at least equaled the analog sound of vinyl on a very good turntable and arguably bested the reel to reel. But even better, that brand new Horizon from Axpona is now in my living room. Fred, the North American dealer, made this possible for us and we are in his debt. I am listening this evening with brand new Richard Kron tubes and the “hour one” experience is electrifying. We hear detail in favorite old songs that we never heard before, to where it’s like hearing them the first time. Wow.

I was very similarly impressed with the Horizon playing at Axpona, to the point that I placed my deposit to upgrade from Pacific. In one of the best sounding systems to my ears at the show, it held up quite well to quality vinyl and 15 ips tapes. I liked the Acora Acoustics speakers driven by VAC gear, and I felt it really showed the music in each format. It was compelling to make the move.
Taking home the show Horizon is pretty sweet! I think I'm looking at October?

It really is a remarkable DAC. It is very close to vinyl. I believe that tube choices get you closer and closer to vinyl. I had a member visit a few days ago. A link to his post is noted above. He stated it’s the best digital he has ever heard and he even preferred it to my vinyl which IMHO is damn good. My tube set has gotten me closer to vinyl than I ever imagined. That’s why Lukasz recommends you find a tube set that checks all your boxes and then stick with it

The acora speakers need plenty of deserved attention. if not for them I’m not sure how I would feel hearing the H dac and being flawed.
vac seems to be a constant in the best rooms
so while yes them too but to me it’s expected. that man’s speakers are a jewel in granite lol. so transparent , speed and amazing dynamics. And yes bud analog and tape is great but rhat H dac was to me even above the analog. great showing all around

I totally agree. I had a Pacific and it was wonderful as well with the Extreme. It is just the infinite number of tube options one can use with the Horizon that can be used to tune and maximize one's system. Comments have been made that the Horizon is so much like vinyl that it's spooky good. I concur with those findings. Some have even gone so far in saying that the Horizon even betters R2R tape. I'm a TAS devotee rather than a Roon user and marvel at the sound I am hearing from my system. It reaches levels that I never knew existed. This coupled with the soon to be available Taiko XDMS, network card and switch will be the icing on the cake. I expect that the best is yet to come but lies right around the corner

it was an absolute pleasure finally getting to meet up in person. I'm so glad the Horizon is already bringing magic to your home. Things are going to get even better over the course of the next few weeks. Enjoy and we'll be in touch!
