LampizatOr Horizon - Tube Rolling Paradise

So here for me is my next big revelation and a big thank you for encouraging me to re-audition this tube in my Horizon is Lukasz and Rau.
My preferred tube set until the last 3 days has been
Thomson CSF 5687
KR KT88
Takatsuki 274B

Prior to my receiving the Horizon Lukasz had suggested that a string contender for pentodes would be KT 170

I purchased a quad matched set of TungSol KT 170's and only heard them for 5-10 minutes during the weekend Lukasz was here at my house and we were rolling tubes. I was not wowed but as Lukasz said at the time, the tubes had no hours on them and I should rethink rolling them back in at a later date

Earlier this week ran had them in and out of his system and really liked them, so much so he said that if I put them in and listen, there is no way I could go back to the KT88. Well I lisrtened for 4 days and was dazzled. Today I put back the KT88 and as good as they were they just did not project all of the information I was hearing with the KT 170's. The KT 170 filled the stage from side to side and front to back.If it were a video every pixel would be illuminated. There was energy I have never heard before and rock solid top to bottom.definition.

The KT170 is new stock, in production, affordable and readily available so for present and future Horizon owners this is a tube that I would give a huge thumb's up to

Thank you Lukasz and rau. This becomes my pentode of choice. It really works well with the Tak and brings out the best in my Lamm gear
The way it's looking we will be using the identical tube combo :) unless I go CV181

Iposted earlier that the Tung Sol Kt 170 is new stock and relatively inexpensive. I bought my quad matched NIB set from this same company 6 weeks ago for under $500

I was thinking I will never ever but those fugly KT170 tubes (as to me looks matter) but after those posts I got a quad just now and those will be the pentodes I'll use. Will not look elsewhere.
Price wise if you know where to look price is still as Steve paid initially ;) and still available.

(1) Mullard CV-181
(2) CSF 5687
(3) 6SN7 Variants

These are my finds and favorites in order
but same as the WE NOS 274B the CV-181 is not cheap so I'll run CSF 5687 . My combo will be KT-170, CSF 5687 , TAK 274 B

same as mine. ;)

I love the combination . It really projects a big, full, rock solid sound stage that is buzzing with detail
who is the manufacturer of the CV181

I know it’s why i posted the question so how does it sound or do I have to suggest and you say yea
steve has better looking sockets lol.

Here are the contents of the Mystery GrabBag I got from Francois. They came in a very old vacuum sealed vinyl bag: 2 5687WA and marked HF (for High Frequency).

Do any of you tube mavens know anything about these? The only physical difference I see between these and my other Thompson CFS's are at the top above the insulating spacer where the Thompson has 4 small rectangular metal plates and the HF have 2. Also the Thompson has another metal plate at the bottom with none on the HF.

I finally received my pair of CSF 5687s. Both tested at 95% so I am good to go. Now I just need an Horizon…
