Great question. I'm surprised this hasn't gotten more attention. While the rage seems to be 5687 (Tung-Sol to Thompson CSF) there is a long history of the 6H30P-DR supertube that apparently can also be used perfectly in the Horizon. They're expensive, but no more so than some CSFs. Surely somebody has tried this tube or will try it?Anyone know if the 6h30/6h30p tubes will work in Horizon? that 6H30P-DR is considered a "super" tube among some.
The 6n30p -DR is used in my LAMM amp. The tube has become unobtainium and if you find them you can easily pay $600-$800 per tube. My concern is they have a very short life. LAMM recommends they be changed every 18 months. LAMM cannot now supply the DR version as they have to be quad matched. Sovtek 6n30p is a good substitute
Huh, I tried in my ex ARC Ref6 and Ref75 new production options of 6n30 (Sovtek and EH) and 6n6p as per Yoda recommendation walked over them quite brutally...Sovtek 6n30p is a good substitute
I've long been under the impression 6N6P is his favorite tube, period.Huh, I tried in my ex ARC Ref6 and Ref75 new production options of 6n30 (Sovtek and EH) and 6n6p as per Yoda recommendation walked over them quite brutally...
I know that he was studying my amps as there are quad sets of 6n30P-DR in each channel. He also suggested I consider switching to 6n6p but not an option without the amp being modified by Lamm which apparently Lamm has done on 1-2 usersI've long been under the impression 6N6P is his favorite tube, period.
Greetings from Switzerland, David.
Goran, Sorry but I don't understand. My decoder ring apprears to be broken. Can you translate again please?Huh, I tried in my ex ARC Ref6 and Ref75 new production options of 6n30 (Sovtek and EH) and 6n6p as per Yoda recommendation walked over them quite brutally...
I understand exactly what he is saying. In short the 6n6p is a better tube and one of Lukasz favorites. It outperformed the 6n30p in his old ARC gear.Goran, Sorry but I don't understand. My decoder ring apprears to be broken. Can you translate again please?
Yes, as Steve said 6n6p much much better vs 6n30 (new production)Goran, Sorry but I don't understand. My decoder ring apprears to be broken. Can you translate again please?
I don’t have a Horizon, but allow me to chime in: the Ricardo Kron 5U4G is a beauty, be sure to either keep it or sell to me for cheap. On a more serious note, I’m a bit apprehensive you may not get the best sound out your system following the advice of others. Believe me, I do see the irony coming to this forum, learn from other people’s experience and contributing myself. Ultimately, there is always going to be synergy (in your system) and personal taste. All of which I have no doubt you know, being an audiophile, another effect of joining forums, it’s a paradox of sorts, LOL! Anyways, enjoy some tube rolling of your own!If I am correct in reading the specs of the Horizon, it looks like the only tube in common with the Pacific is the rectifier. For my Pacific Trade In, I have the original tubes that came with it, including the rectifier. However, I bought a replacement Riccardo Kron rectifier (the fancy one) which I have been using on the Pacific. Should I keep it for the Horizon or sell it and either use the stock rectifier or buy a different replacement? I want to wait to receive the Horizon and listen to it with the stock tubes before starting to experiment. I'm not much of a tube roller, but since I have the fancy Kron rectifier, I am guessing I should keep it for the time being. By the time I get my Horizon and break it in, I hope that you folks will have sorted all the tube rolling out and I can then just copycat your consensus choices.
Again, thanks for the thread - I am guessing new Horizon owners on the thread make up a not insignificant fraction of the total number of Horizon owners, at least at this point.
