LampizatOr Horizon - Tube Rolling Paradise

Awesome report. I love it! I wonder if you would mind telling us a bit more about the recti you are using there with these tubes.
Thanks again!

Also, I put the Sylvania metal base (which I see as the best 6SN7) back in to see what it would sound like with my new Bendix 6384. Let’s just say I am now back to the ECC32, so with you there.
Which ECC32 are you using? Looks like they must be the Mullards. There are several different Mullard sub species of ECC 32s. Will the correct Mullard ECC 32s please stand up? Are the Mullard ECC 31s the same as the 32s sonically? Which adapters are needed?

Mine are Mullard brown base. Not sure about others. Sone here seem to have black base. Which is better, I don’t know. The 31 are very close—slightly more bloomy if that makes sense. They are close enough that you may want to save money and get them…

I would love an engraved 274b, but think 4a22 is more reasonable. Maybe try what Gollum has. He has yet to lead me astray.

I had a WE 274A (same as 274B but different pin out so needs an adapter) and a WE 422a with my Golden Gate and they sounded quite different. It will be worth trying the 274B.

I can confirm what Goran shared about the Tungsram OS1 tubes. I tried almost any tubes which fits the Horizon. Different KT88,KT170,EL34,6L6,Bendix,,El51 and so on. So far the OS1 is the King. Yesterday we had a tube rolling session with some friends. We compared the OS1 to several other tubes. The Philips EL51 was very close to the OS1, but we found the OS1 overall better, more natural sounding.

FWIW, in addition to the excellent sonics that Goran reported, the Jacmusic link that Goran sent had the following info that was quite compelling in getting me to try the 4654.

Exactly the same finding from @Thundersnow who has both 274a and 274b...

Horizon's core DAC chip "ENGINE ELEVEN".
Just to be on the "correct side" - Horizon is not using Engine 11. E11 is used in the models below H...

Just to clarify - I had a 274A and a 422a, which sounded different to me. I never had the 274B.
Ah...they should sound different...I was referring to sound diff 274a vs 274b where I guess adapter is making the diff

Thanks Golum. I guess I stand corrected. When I spoke to Lukasz in Munich last May I thought he said that Engine 57 was in the Pacific, and it was being upgraded/replaced by Engine "11" (like the Netflix series). I think Lukasz has a thing for American cinema. ;-)

Regards,

Ray

What is the recti you are using?

Will you be sharing/selling them?
Recti Valvo and Telefunken AZ1 big globe mesh plates…(adapter needed for the base and step down from 5 to 4V)
Laszlo might have some spare quads but ping him or maybe Framcois has some P17c available but no idea honestly…
