Yes, very interesting article, thanks. Scary, but I may try baking the 596 if the crackling continues.

I have some Marconi PX4 that test 90% that made a rustling noise for for a good while - maybe 20 hours. They have come round to normality now though.

Had some Raytheon rectifiers, 6X5, that were dreadfully noisy for the first two hours, then eventually cured themselves.

I'd leave that rectifier on in the DAC for a good few hours, 24 at least, with some triodes you don't care about, before baking it, if you haven't already done so. No need to play music of course:);)

As mentioned, it already had 300 hours on it. I had pulled it at that point when the GZ32 arrived, but since replacing it the crackle seems to have disappeared.

Yeah but 300 hours when was my thought.

If it's gone then good. I am not surprised.

I was able to “smuggle” a pair of match px25 out of Japan and otw to me now. Anyone can recommend someone selling a good B4 to UX4 adapter, ideally out of teflon?

Thanks.

I use these. Heavy, quality item. The Philips screw in the base can work lose but it's easy to tighten. Just make sure they are tight when you get them and you probably won't have an issue and if you do the solution is obvious.

Which PX25s did you get?

Haltron branded MOV.

Also buddy suggested I buy suzier on eBay for Px25 adapter. I do like that it is a Teflon body.

You can try but I will say I think my suggestion is better. Although it doesn't say I am fairly sure the insides of mine are Teflon.

The real problem I have found with other adaptors is the cylinders than hold the tube pins pull out with the valve.

To help stop this likelyhood treat the tube pins with Deoxit. That will leave a lubricant on the pins making it easier to get the tube in and out and reduce the chance of breaking the socket.

Those PX25s are going to sound good if they measure well;) Enjoy:)

Another reason for Deoxit.

I was about to return the Loewe AD1 I acquired recently from a German seller as one was noisy. However the seller told me to clean the pins.

I've just done it about two hours ago. The pins looked clean, so I was skeptical.

Two hours on and I have heard nothing - no noise whatsoever.

Amazed. And very happy:)

Question for you seasoned Lampi tube rollers. I was thinking of picking up a good 274B to compliment the KR 5U4G for the Pacific. I looks like some of you like the PSvane ACME 274B. I also notice the PSvane has a 274B-TII with carbon coating on the inside to getter stray electrons. anyone compared these two or should I look elsewhere?

Thanks

Depends on the kind of sound you like, I suppose, in getting the right combination. I don't have a Pacific, but with the TRP I like the Psvane WE274B 1:1 replica. I found it very nice all-arounder and sweeter and more listenable than the KR 5U4G RK Anniversary. In combination (one each in TRP + Supratek preamp), the pair were not quite able to overcome the RK's relative coolness ("neutral") for my tastes. But that's my tastes, plus I don't know the non-RK's sound. I got my replica from HiFi Exquis in Hong Kong, but also Rachel at Grant Fidelity in Canada has a well-chosen selection of all three - http://psvanetube.com/wordpress/purchase/shop-by-tube-model/274b/.

I'm sorry to post too much on my own thread, but I just went from KR PX4 to Osram Marconi PX25.

Massive, instantaneous and obvious slaughter. PX25 sounds glorious in comparison.

Open, relaxed, natural and easy always seems to come to mind whenever I play these PX25s. Outstanding.

Album for quick compare: William S Burroughs In Dub by Dub Spencer and Trance Hill.

Soz this is an edit: rectifier is Westinghouse VU71.

PX4 is just boring like hell. PX25s (all of them including their variations) are top top performers.
As i had to feed my hoarder part of me, I received yesterday brand new EML 45 Mesh Globe Lampi 6th Ann edition and compared to regular 45 this one is way ahead in terms of presentation - just massive difference all across the board. Super happy. And overall i would rate this particular tube among top choices which I have in my stash.
As it's unobtainable, I'll enjoy them for a few more days and then back to top notch working horse RD27 we go :). 41CC05A1-45D1-4C50-AE7A-C69338F1A950.jpeg 2710DB5D-5B93-42C2-87D3-B2D0D421533E.jpeg 5E3A5257-4D10-4F87-893F-CA74E5F13580.jpeg

I enjoy those 45 Mesh Globe Lampi Anniv already for 4 months, bought with Lukasz Fikus after Ked’s visit.
In my system together with KR 5u4g RK are the best, 242 have had too much gain.
Still have PX25 and Acme 274B among others but EML 45 Lampi anniv with RK rectifier have everything I am looking for : tone, separation, resolution, timbre and micro dynamics.
Stunning combination in my system.

Finally received my Tesla AD1Ns, which were mailed out on April 14th. It was worth the wait. Can't say I've ever heard this DAC sound like this.

Many thanks to @User211 for trailblazing his way to this discovery and to @Golum for his wonderful source of the tubes.
You got them finally?!? Yeah - really happy for you!
Regarding the view on them - you won't pass with just one sentence ;)
