Love taking pics of the gear

As I was repositioning my speakers yesterday, I just taped down a piece of string on the backside of my listening chair and used it to measure distances -- inside and outside edges of the speakers. Super high tech.

Haha
Sometimes the simplest methods are the best. :)

Simple is best you never snapped a line?

Rob :)

Here is the one to get. They have one that measures accurately to the arcsec. But at that point you will start to run into manufacturing tolerances.

BTW…I did not set the azimuth with the level. I dialed in the speaker by ear and that is what the azimuth is.

Hi Todd - I may be reading this wrong, but Amazon show too different models numbers are needed to cover both horizontal and vertical angles.

Yes, the one with 0.001 precision is either vertical or horizontal. So 2 units would be required for both.

The used to have the 2000XY which has neen replaced by the 3000XY. It has a precision of 0.01 degrees. But it goes from 0 to 90 degrees.

Out of curiosity, why do you need both horizontal and vertical?

My Tobians are angled back about 6 degrees. Actually, so far I get the best sound with them angled back 5.25 degrees.

So I level for side to side then front to back for level to find which angles are best and make sure both speakers are consistent.

So far my Stabila digital level is much nicer than the lower quality Empire level.

...FWIW may I suggest cross-checking the final result with a laser across the speakers, onto a piece of foam core, etc. as well? In my experience, most of these devices are very accurate for the first degree, but beyond that, much less so. I always double-check with something fixed in place, to which both speakers can be referenced. Or...just enjoy the music!

Hi Markus - I do it in four steps:

1) use lasers and such to get them aligned the same in what I call the 95% position;

2) I fine tune positions with ear to get closer to the 100% position;

3) I then go back to tweak level to ensure they are leveled and angled the same;

4) confirm through listening this was only a positive add to the sound and not a negative.

I'm not saying this is the best or right way - just a process that works well for me. That's also why I upgraded from the consumer level to a more pro-level like Stabila. It really is a much nice level in every way.

...Stabila is a primo level. And remember the old saying: Two things you should never drop. A level and a baby! Haha. Enjoy those tunes!

Anyone else ready for tonight?

System is powered on and warming up as I'm ready for another Saturday Night Listening Session with some crazy-potent liqueur from Greece.

Time for upgrade:

Selling the Siltech (the black cable pictured) for STEALTH Dream Petite V16 - T speaker cable.

Just hit the 500 hour mark of burn in on the burn-in system and time to bring it over to the main system.
