New Album & The Beginning of Basketball Season

Phil

What a disappointment for you with the Cs losing to the Bulls on the last shot in OT to win 100-99

Yeah Steve. I was watching the whole game with my son and the C's blew it in regulation. Sometimes the play calls of Doc surprise me. In regulation up by 2 and having the ball with a few seconds, he called it into a trapped Pierce rather than throwing it backcourt to Rondo which they were allowed too. And for some reasons, he calls all plays basically on Pierce and Garnett which are all too well known by the opposing coaches down the line. And boy, that last second shot struck me and the C's fans like a lightning bolt. Tough tough loss. The Bulls are gonna be good when Rose arrives.

IMO I have and still feel that Kevin Durant is the best shooter in the league. If he ever beefed up like LBJ........... wow

He drops 52 last night and is now .4 points per game behind Kobe in the scoring race. I fully anticipate KD to win the scoring title again this year as he has done for the past 3 years

i feel the same way too, steve. and kd shoots with a sense of ease and has good choice of shots. and yes, he should bulk up and that will make him real tough on the inside drives. that is what makes james unstoppable in the drives to the hoop. huge upper body protects the ball when he drives.

That's what makes LBJ so great as was so evident a few days ago when they beat the Lakers but as far as a pure, almost effortless shot from any where on the court I will go with KD and if it is between him and LBJ for that final shot I still go with KD

And another plus for Lebron is his assists. Averaging almost 7 career totals. KD's is 3. That's one area where KD can improve specially when double teamed.

Clippers play the Wizards tonight.

John Wall is back from injury and playing well for Washington.

Clips win again. Amazing 24 of the last 27 games. I'd really like to see them in the Finals. Chris Paul I do not doubt will carry them if that happens but I'd like to see Blake Griffin emerge as a consistent force in the game. His moves to me has been very good in regular season games, that is without pressure, but in pressure packed playoffs games I'd like to see him do what he does, not by flying around for dunks, but on power plays and rebounds where it counts. If I think Lebron is unstoppable, then I believe Griffin should be unstoppable too, given his athleticism; he will need more refinement in his moves. At any rate, the rest of the team should contribute enough for them to succeed come playoff time. They are 10 deep, not even counting Billups who's in the IL.

The Wizards played tough last night and the Clippers couldn't put them away until the end. John Wall played a great game for the Wizards but he missed a free throw and had a critical turnover late in the game.

Blake Griffin has improved his game this year with some better post moves. I do agree that he has more work to do as he relies too much on muscle and not enough finesse.

Nobody wants to appear on Sportscenter as Griffin's latest poster dunk so he does get some pretty rough treatment down low. He does get tied up more often than I would like to see.

Love to see the Clippers in the Finals, too!

Golden State Monday night - good rivalry developing with the Warriors.

Celtics fall tonight, just like the Patriots. C's on a 3 game losing streak after a 6 game winning run.

Guess it's safe to say at this point that there will be no Celtics-Lakers Finals. :D

I won't be pleased with is a Heat parade .. Looking more likely everyday :(

I'm not giving up just yet on the Knicks, OKC, SAS, or even the Clippers, I hope, to thwart that parade.Sad to say, but Ray Allen is helping them with those much needed points from the outside.

Maloofs agree to sell NBA's Kings to Seattle group

By ANTONIO GONZALEZ (AP Sports Writer)

The only thing stopping the Sacramento Kings from a sale and move to Seattle is approval by NBA owners.
The Maloof family has agreed to sell the Kings to a Seattle group led by investor Chris Hansen, the league confirmed in a statement Monday morning. The deal is still pending a vote by the NBA Board of Governors.
A person familiar with the decision said that Hansen's group will buy 65 percent of the franchise for $525 million, move the team to Seattle and restore the SuperSonics name. The Maloofs will have no stake in the team.
The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the deal was waiting approval.
The sale figure is a total valuation of the franchise, which includes relocation fees. Hansen's group also is hoping to buy out other minority investors.
The Maloofs will get a $30 million non-refundable down payment by Feb. 1, according to the deal, one person said. They will still be allowed to receive other offers until the league approves the sale.
The plan by Hansen's group is to have the team play at least the next two seasons in KeyArena before moving into a new facility in downtown Seattle. The deadline for teams to apply for a move for next season is March 1.
''We have always appreciated and treasured our ownership of the Kings and have had a great admiration for the fans and our team members. We would also like to thank Chris Hansen for his professionalism during our negotiation. Chris will be a great steward for the franchise,'' Kings co-owner Gavin Maloof said in a statement on behalf of the family.
Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson said last week he had received permission from NBA Commissioner David Stern to present a counteroffer to league owners from buyers who would keep the Kings in Sacramento.
Johnson, himself a former All-Star point guard in the NBA, said in a statement that the city remained undeterred despite the agreement with the Seattle group.
''Sacramento has proven that it is a strong NBA market with a fan base that year in and year out has demonstrated a commitment to the Kings by selling out 19 of 27 seasons in a top 20 market and owning two of the longest sellout streaks in NBA history,'' Johnson said.
''When it comes to keeping the team in our community, Sacramento is playing to win. In particular, we have been focused like a laser on identifying an ownership group that will both have the financial resources desired by the NBA and the vision to make the Kings the NBA equivalent of what the Green Bay Packers have been in the NFL.''
In a saga that has dragged on for nearly three years, Johnson and Sacramento appear to be facing their most daunting challenge yet.
Hansen, a Seattle native and San Francisco-based investor, reached agreement with local governments in Seattle last October on plans to build a $490 million arena near the city's other stadiums, CenturyLink Field and Safeco Field.
As part of the agreement, no construction will begin until all environmental reviews are completed and a team has been secured. The arena also faces a pair of lawsuits, including one from a longshore workers union because the arena is being built close to port and industrial operations.
Hansen's group is expected to pitch in $290 million in private investment toward the arena, along with helping to pay for transportation improvements in the area around the stadiums.
The plans also call for the arena to be able to handle a future NHL franchise.
The remaining $200 million in public financing would be paid back with rent money and admissions taxes from the arena, and if that money falls short, Hansen would be responsible for making up the rest.
Other investors in the proposed arena include Microsoft Chief Executive Steve Ballmer and two members of the Nordstrom department store family.
Hansen's goal has been to return the SuperSonics to the Puget Sound after they were moved from Seattle to Oklahoma City in 2008. Asked in September if he could envision a team being in Seattle for the 2013 season, Hansen was cautious about finding an option that quickly.
The Kings' sale price would top the NBA-record $450 million the Golden State Warriors sold for in July 2010.
''While we are not at liberty to discuss the terms of the transaction or our plans for the franchise given the confidential nature of the agreement and NBA regulations regarding public comments during a pending transaction, we would just like to extend our sincerest compliments and gratitude toward the Maloof family,'' Hansen said in a statement. ''Our negotiations with the family were handled with the utmost honor and professionalism and we hope to continue their legacy and be great stewards of this NBA franchise in the coming years and decades.''
Seattle Mayor Mike McGinn added, ''While there is more work ahead, this is a major step toward bringing the Sonics home.''
Brothers Joe, Gavin and George Maloof bought controlling interests in the franchise from Los Angeles-based developer Jim Thomas in 1999. The Maloofs, who have long waited for an upgrade to the team's outdated arena, backed out of a tentative $391 million deal for a new downtown building with Sacramento last year, reigniting fears the franchise could relocate.
Johnson and the Kings broke off all negotiations in the summer, with the team's owners saying the deal didn't make financial sense for the franchise.
In 2011, the Kings appeared determined to move to Anaheim before Johnson convinced the NBA to give the city one last chance to help finance an arena.
At one point, Johnson seemed so certain the team was gone he called the process a ''slow death'' and compared the city's efforts to keep the Kings a ''Hail Mary.''
Johnson made a pitch to the NBA Board of Governors in April 2011, promising league owners the city would find a way to help finance a new arena to replace the team's current outdated suburban facility. That pitch bought the Kings time, before the brokered deal between the city and the Maloofs fell apart last year.

Seattle owners could target R.C. Buford or Larry Bird to run franchise....

The new Seattle NBA ownership group has begun discussing possible candidates to run its franchise and has deliberated whether to target San Antonio Spurs general manager R.C. Buford and former Indiana Pacers president Larry Bird, sources told Yahoo! Sports.

Spurs general manager R.C. Buford has helped build one of the NBA's most successful franchises.
The ownership group led by Chris Hansen and Steve Ballmer has finalized an agreement to purchase the Sacramento Kings and plans to move the team to Seattle for the 2013-14 season. The pending owners want to completely redo the franchise's basketball infrastructure, sources told Yahoo! Sports.
The Seattle group believes it will need to completely rebuild the franchise, and that means hiring an executive with a strong history of drafting, player evaluation and organization building.
Kings GM Geoff Petrie, who is in the final year of his contract, will not be retained, sources said. Petrie is expected to retire at season's end, league sources said.

Buford is considered one of the preeminent executives in the NBA, responsible for shaping the roster for four Spurs championships and maintaining the league's model organization. Under Buford and president/coach Gregg Popovich, the Spurs have created an unmatched infrastructure of international scouting that's led to the drafting of numerous elite players, including Manu Ginobili, Tony Parker and Luis Scola.

To convince Buford to leave San Antonio, where he enjoys close personal and professional relationships with Popovich and owner Peter Holt, the Seattle group might need to offer a small percentage of equity into the franchise and give him autonomy to assemble and run basketball operations. Any potential offer in Seattle would need to be extraordinary to get Buford to leave the Spurs.
Bird, the NBA's 2011 Executive of the Year, stepped away from the Pacers in the spring to take care of some health issues, but had planned to return in 2013 or '14. Bird wants to work again and there's nothing contractual that binds him to the Pacers. Donnie Walsh and Kevin Pritchard are running the Pacers' front office now.
As GM, Bird replenished the Pacers' roster with multiple top young players through the draft, including Roy Hibbert, Paul George and Danny Granger.
If the new Seattle group ultimately searches for lower-profile candidates with strong player personnel backgrounds, Boston assistant GM Ryan McDonough, who had a significant hand in the drafting of Rajon Rondo and Al Jefferson, and Oklahoma City's Troy Weaver, whose draft résumé includes Russell Westbrook and Serge Ibaka, could surface as candidates.

Frantz, I hope that parade in South Beach doesn't happen. OKC lacks Harden this year but the team is looking more mature. My favorite to upset them however remains the Clipps

I see that too, in losing Harden, the second unit of OKC doesn't have a spark that is murderous to most opponents last season, except in the Finals where he was pulverized by Miami's defense. I hope to see Indiana play MIA in the first round or second, as last season they were banging hard against the Heat and were in fact up 2-1 at one point in a series which prompted Wade to seek out his college coach to 'regain' his confidence. The Knicks, started to lose some positive chemistry when Felton went on the DL and Amare came back. Now Shumpert is back to further alter the rotation. We'll have to see how Mike Brown steers the team. Just like the Clips, the Knicks has my vote for the deepest bench in the NBA, how they translate that to a title is another matter.

BTW, today marks the halfway point of the season

and a few more weeks before the trade deadline. i'd like to see some big moves soon, starting with my celtics. they need a true center.

Mike Woodson ;)

right, steve. an unconscious slip there. hehe.

knicks just lost a close one to brooklyn. wow shumpert got something like a 5- inch tall har. :D
