New Album & The Beginning of Basketball Season

would weigh in against Durant, Westbrook and Coach Skiles.

they'd be better off if it was Coach Skiles. Different Scott instead.

Ron and Steve,

If you think LAL might not make the playoffs, what are the 8 teams that you think might shut them out? I agree that they are a year older and a year slower but it is a shortened regular season. This would work in their favor yes?

How reall old is Kobe 34? 35? Really .. Let's wait and see .. The Mavs won with a team .. and ONE , singebut not lonely superstar. The Lkaers are remain a great team. odom will nbe missed and they stillhave their fron office. They may not make a major , headline-grabbing trade but the way you count them out is unjustified .. lets wait . Lesser teams have won Championships the Big 3 were beaten by Dirk and his crew ... Just look at what happened in in the NFl with those superteams, granted the NFL is not as player oriented as the NBA , still Philly did not set the league on fire nor did the Resdkins last year ... We'll see

Hamilton looks good for the Bulls. In his first quarter, he had the speed to get out ahead of Rose on two fast breaks then finished,

Rip, if he plays rejuvenated ball like Jason Kidd last season, will help the Bulls in having another scoring option aside from DRose who was controlled by James in the playoffs. Rose will be more motivated but then again, so will Lebron and Wade, to win a title.I feel NY is a dark horse in the east, specially if they develop into a choking defensive team.

... but sadly I am agreeing with Ron Party that unless the Lakers make a big trade they won't make the playoffs
Whoa there, big fella!

The Lakers will make the playoffs. What I said was that barring a major trade by the Lakers or injuries on the part of the Mavs and/or Thunder, the Lakers will not make the Western Conference finals. Both conferences will see a repeat of the match ups from last year's conference finals.

LAL still have the Big 3 like Boston but their problem is 'help'. Odom the best 6th man is gone for an invisible future draft pick. Boston lost a potential starter in Green. Championship teams always have key players off the bench who maintain the pace when the the big names get some rest. In 2008, I felt it was James Posey doing that for Boston. Odom of course did it in LA, and Terry and even Barea helped Dallas last season. These are the kind of guys that Pat Riley once said, 'if I had to design a defense for 'player x', then we're in big trouble'. I feel LAL will reach the playoffs even with this lineup, but I agree with Steve that in Round 1, their days are in danger. In Phi Jackson's championship runs with the Bulls in the 90s, I have always been amazed at how he gets these kinds of effective players off the bench who would always contribute when called to play - Stacey King, Cliff Levingston, Scot Williams, Bill Wennington, etc. They are a key element in a championship team. These are the kind of players LA and Boston need at this time.

Sorry for misquoting you Ron but for me the playoffs ARE the NBA Finals. I agree they will make "the playoffs but there are just too many better teams now in the Western Conference who IMO can beat them.....case in point the Clipps looked awfully good in their 2 preseason games against the Lakers

I just read in the papers that Kobe has injured his wrist and may be out as long as four weeks. THAT does not bode well for the Lakers. I see Steve's point now. A longer season makes for more recovery time plus having more games to make up for losses due to injuries of key players.

If D'Antoni and maybe Chandler can get the other guys to play defense. Hate the Knicks (was part of my Chicago upbringing) but love live hoops obviously -- can't tell you what a tomb the Garden has been the last 10+ years. Would be nice to see good, meaningful games there. As an aside, MSG being a draw for players is really a joke these days. It's been a pit for years now though maybe the plastic surgery done over the summer will help.

Short season issue with older guys and teams lacking depth is density of it -- far fewer r+r days.

Oh yeah. And I'm sure you will be too. Disgusted as I am with both sides of the dispute, great to have ball back.

Needless to say I will be watching Lakers-Bulls Christmas day

The closest thing to MJ we may see for a while .. An incredible player whose consistent excellence has made us all jaded...

What an amazing first game of this shortened season. Celts vs Knicks. Back and forth battle with the Knicks prevailing by 2

Knicks look good and so did the Celts .. While He Heat remain the favorite, I don't think it is a foregone conclusion that will wintheEast let alone the NBA championship ... Ny the way can anyone explain the Lamar Odom trade to me ? The Lakers got nothing for him, except , maybe salary cap room?

That plus Lamar demanded a trade after the first was nixed by David Stern

Missed this game live as it was shown 1 am local time. Will watch the replay later. Happy that the C's gave a good fight and was leading by 10 at the 4th even without Pierce. Rondo's 31 is a good sign, maybe the Obama speech is beginning to inspire him to improve his shooting. :) Miami is blowing out Dallas as I wake up to check the games. LAL and Chicago will be something later on. The games have begun. That's the good thing.

about $9 in cap space, and a 1st round pick. but the lakers also threw back a 2nd round pick. seemed like mitch was really in a hurry to grant the demand of odom.

Only way it makes sense as you note was for a run at Paul and now Howard. Go Bulls!
