New Atlas Lambda

No need to specially point out the FR-64S, as it is just one among dozens of tonearm models that I / Lyra have used over the decades.
Actually, now i recollect you mentioning somewhere you also liked Ikeda's later arms over FR 64s for resonance - could be an incorrect paraphrasing.

I'm not sure where to post this question as I don't see a thread dedicated to cartridge loading - so since I've got the Lyra Atlas Lambda, here goes...

I’ve not yet picked up a phono stage, but would like to get ready for that – likely either a Ypsilon, Lamm, Audionet, or CHPrecision P1 (which yes, I know, the current mode does not care about loading, but it also has mm input, so if the P1 wins, I plan to also experiment with that input and my SUT, Ypsilon MC10L).

I find the Lyra instructions less than helpful and hoping someone can clarify the loading requirements a bit more when using a SUT.

This SUT allows for loading of the input and the output. So, there’s 3 opportunities for adding load and I’m at loss on figuring out how to distribute the load among:
  • SUT Input
  • SUT Output
  • Phono Stage
Yes, I realize in the end there'll be trial and error and dialing in by ear, but since I must first buy the resistors, I'd like some idea of the resister Ohm values to buy.

I’m also not quite following the instruction discussion about loading for 6db and 3db. It first suggests going with the 6db for higher end phono stages, a criterion I assume the ones in the running satisfy, and the instructions then recommend loading for the 3db.

My connecting wires will be:
  • Kuzma OEM tonearm wire from Lyra to SUT with capacitance of 75 pF (per Kuzma)
  • Audience FrontRow wire from SUT to Phono stage with capacitance of 324pF (per Audience)
Finally, Lyra suggests the following:
  • 75pF, aim for 740ohm for 6db, or 505ohm for 3db
  • 324pF, aim for 380ohm for 6db, or 257ohm for 3db
And then, of course, there's the load at the phono stage itself. So, very complicated.

I think you're going about this thoughtfully. However the final answer will likely be by your own ear and preferences. So while it may seem complicated now, once things break in and start settling down I think you're arrive at an answer you like best. And yes if the P1 who knows you might like the SUT also.

Given the phono stages on your list, you may consider the Nagra HD Phono also. I love the variable loading on mine. Easy to hear the steps and I do change it often depending on mood or recording.
