New WAMM details

PS- also from WA: "Actually, original WAMM owners would be offered first, followed by XLF and X2 owners. This is simply a way to put in reasonable orderthose who would like to be among the first to acquire the new WAMM."[/QUOTE

Based on the second pic released it appears the new WAMM will use a a double MTM arrangement over the two woofers....two 7 inch mids , two 1 inch domes, and a centrally located supper tweeter. This along with the two "out rigger" woofer towers. Do find it odd though, that for Mr. Wilson's Legacy product that there are no built in amps with DSP to optimize the Sub Towers into a given environment.
Cheers....

I think the MTM will be top to bottom:

7" Mid
5.75" Mid
1" Tweeter
5.75" Mid
7" Mid

I think you are correct.....however the tweeter must be a totally reworked soft dome as I believe the efficiency will be in the 95 db range and I don't believe their current soft dome is that efficient.

I think DW used to design his Watch Dog Sub with built-in amps/crossover. However, the next generation of that sub which came out many years ago (and remains today in the line-up) removed the amp and crossover, and now Wilson recommends owners use their own high current amp for the sub (some use the SAME amp as the mains for ultimate continuity)...with the external Wilson crossover.

This image is very instructive. It gives a good sense of the scale of this speaker....XLF on heavy duty steroids. No resemblance to the old whamm which is an outdated design by today's standards. There are going to be some happy audiophiles who are lucky enough to own this speaker.

I wonder if the midranges will be out of phase like other models and if they'll use the same swappable resistor system.

So let's see, Sept 26th is:

1) NFL football Mon Night
2) The debate
3) Another WAMM picture.

I wonder what the majority of forum members are waiting for the most?

From Stereophile's XLF review:

In the time domain, the Alexandria XLF's step response at the listening position (fig.8) indicates that the tweeter and woofers are connected in positive acoustic polarity, the midrange units in inverted polarity. However, the decay of the tweeter's step smoothly blends into the start of the midrange units' step, and the decay of the midrange units' step smoothly blends into the start of the woofers' step. This indicates optimal crossover design, which, in combination with the adjustable geometry of the upper-frequencydrivers, will give the smooth blending of the drive-unit outputs in the frequency domain claimed for the Aspherical Group Delay technology.

Off topic, but I have to admit, I'm REALLY curious about Monday's debate. Trump won't be reading from a teleprompter...

If the new WAMM is essentially just an enlarged XLF with a doubling of M-T-M drivers -- rather than a more radical, new design with four columns or with some innovative driver like an electrostatic midrange or a plasma tweeter or some other major "wow" element -- how is this going to sell for the better part of $1,000,000?

Ron,
I have to agree with you 100%. Owning a speak that was inspired by the WAMM, I've been looking forward to seeing the new one. With just 2 columns, a few more drivers then the XLF and with no state of the art driver like an electrostatic panel, it's going to disappoint.

A WAMM which is just an enlarged XLF might disappoint the picky audiophile cognoscenti, but people who love Wilson and who don't care much about the price, and who are into simply having the biggest, latest and greatest from their favorite speaker company (or from their favorite sports car company or boat company, etc.) will buy it.
