I couldn't agree more.Well London is a different case- a/c would likely improve the air quality.
But a hilltop in Wiltshire is a different kettle of fish
Agree well worth it.I have 7 aircon units going into my London place. Summer heatwaves in the UK can be intolerable.
Mostly because of French inheritance laws. Unless ALL the children agree what to do with the property, no individual child can sell it or I believe even live in it without unanimous agreement. All too often, one child will resist the sale, so the prperty stands empty and deteriorating sometimes for decades.Interesting and puzzling how so many Properties here, are just left to decay.
What an amazing story and passion to share!Interesting and puzzling how so many Properties here, are just left to decay.
I think this happens in Italy also...
We pass deserted homes on every road we take.

Whereabouts in France(?) is this? The House we purchased was owned by an English Couple to renovate and make some money.
They intended, after so many years of living in France there older ages they would feel happier in the UK.
Previously the house was empty for 6+ years..Certainly was part of a farm which was divided up to smaller properties.
1801 built and the adjoining barn had the animal holding places still in situ..the floor is like large cobble stones and the ceiling in half missing...no up stairs at the present time..if ever..
Husband had to make a new main front Barn Door and very pleased with that..at the back is the original doors that will stay that way...

He purchased the panels at a local DIY Store in fact they are the same panels we have used around our veggie plot..3 euros a panel which is about the cheapest type they had!..By the time he had sanded and stained them really did take on a new look..These wooden panels look absolutely stunning! Where did you get them? Did you put them together or were they already joint?
How about What's Best Converted Chapels? It doesn't get any crazier than What's Best Castles, does it?
Fascinating undertaking. This Castle is Guedelon Castle Burgundy France...
Guedelon Castle is a project started in 1997 by Michel Guyot and Maryline Martin in the Burgundy region of France. The castle is styled on typical French medieval chateau-fort, modeled on designs from the 13th century, and is being built using techniques and materials available to masons and builders 800 years ago.
