I have spent a bit of time over the last few days considering the purchase of a Studer C37 reconditioned by Tim de Paravicini. After a brief consult with MikeL and a lengthy consult with my Studer technician I have decided against it.
I texted you: "Do you have an opinion on the sound of Studer C37 versus A820?"
You replied: "I heard the c37 separately to the A820 not same system, but it replaced A80 and sounded better, but both left me cold. I would rather spend money on Doshi preamp for a lower priced tape deck."

When one finds what he likes, and it happens to be the rare and coveted items from the past, combined with a sober viewing of the current state of high-end Audio, it’s very possible he might want to own multiple examples of older gear. Occasionally, they break and need to be repaired.
I’m not speaking for Ron because I have no idea what his thinking is, but I laid out one possibility. Snippets cherry picked from past posts and juxtaposed can be quite confusing.

i still miss my Nagra T and Nagra IV-S, just as works of art. the C37 is another looker. and....it's got tubes. how do we explain desire of pretty "especially vintage' things that also happen to sound great?
we can't. but we can dream a little and talk about it.

Akin to "first loves." My full Goldmund stack (Mimesis 2, 3, 4, 10, 36, Studio+T3F) from way back when is mine. Shout out to Bill Peugh who ran Goldmund US at the time.
Ron, I am not at all surprised. The way you raved about the sound of that large Clarisys system with these SS amps that you helped organize and set up, I figured it was inevitable. The comment about the bass quality is interesting. It does seem those speakers need more power.
Will you be getting the preamp and becoming a dealer? Do you have a system video? I’ll be curious what you think after you get your new cartridge set up.
