Ron's Speaker, Turntable, Power and Room Treatment Upgrades

Hey Ron,

You might want to take a look at this one. We own 2 and use them in the office.

Thank you, LL21!

It is an interesting report! It is especially interesting that while test subjects considered the chair to be more comfortable and more orthopedically desirable ("significant decrease in physical loading") than their prior chairs, the test subjects judged the seat as being "hard."

As much as I like the look and feel of leather, the fabric-wrapped memory foam Lifeform seat was pretty darn comfortable! Lounge chairs which allow me to sink into it them as if the seat were a big marshmallow don't support my back and make me uncomfortable over time. I sink a little bit into into the memory foam of the Lifeform, but within a solid, supportive structure. (And I find memory foam mattresses too marshmallowy to sleep on.)

I was amazed when I first discovered the Humanscale Freedom chair, as it was the first office chair in which I did not become uncomfortable or fidgety over time. (I naturally have trouble sitting in a chair for too long, so, for me, time spent finding the "perfect" listening chair is time well spent.) I considered the Freedom chair for my listening chair, but I have realized that I want something with a more cushy seat cushion.

I find slightly interesting that so far in my chair search I think I still find most comfortable the chairs that just naturally feel right from the moment I sit in them (Freedom chair, Ekornes, Ferrari bucket seat) as opposed to chairs with many individual adjustments (Via Seating Carmel, Lifeform, Mercedes) which in theory should afford a perfect fit for each individual.

PS: It may seem like I'm overthinking this chair search, but 1) it is a fun research project, and 2) I could defend the proposition that the listening chair is by far the single most important "component" in the entire room!

Ron, I think the location of that chair is more important than is the comfort. You could always put a nice mattress on the floor and be comfortable.

Actually, sitting up on a mattress would make me uncomfortable after a while. Plus I think the ears would be too low vis-à-vis the speakers.

i have 3 Herman Miller Aeron Side Chairs in my room behind my Ekones sofa. they are my wife's favorite chairs to sit in and are comfortable for long periods of time. and cheap too. very solid and surprisingly heavy. quality look and feel. visitors universally like them.

and later this chair will be usable in many places around your home. or you can buy a few more as high quality chairs to bring into the listening room when you need them.

Lol. I was suggesting you lie down on a mattress and be really comfortable to make the point that the sound would be bad but you would be comfortable.

I think the location of the listening Chair in the room is more important and the type of chair it is, but of course comfort is important

The strangest seat I ever had was the 'hard saddle' seat in my first Infiniti 1990 Q45. When you first sat in it, you would have thought it was going to be awful because it was so firm. However, after a few minutes, it completely disappeared and I could drive the car forever without any seat stress or consciousness in complete comfort. I always thought if I could make that car seat into a chair, it would be the one I would want for listening.

I contacted ERA to see if the company can make the very comfy-looking Newport chair in a mid-back height model (Post #2,160). The answer is no.

The leading chair candidate for me at the moment is the Lifeform mid-back height model with fabric upholstery (which allows one to sink into the memory foam in a more cushy way then does the leather or fake leather upholstery).

yes

This seems counter intuitive to me, comically so... my thought is if it takes this herculean effort to hear the stereo then it sucks. Good sound delivers, you don't have to go on an archeological dig every time you want to hear it.

Shouldn't you want to be very relaxed so the music can reach you emotionally? Or are you trying to prevent yourself from falling asleep? The only problem I have with falling asleep while listening is you need an auto-lift for the tonearm.

dont you want to prop your feet up?

I find I don't really sit like that that often. I have a footrest with the Ekornes chair I am playing with presently, and I don't really use the footrest.

And can't you put any random foot rest in front of a chair and then you have a footrest?

You lose support on a wheeled chair when using a foot rest unless the wheels are locked. Basically it puts you into a pilates exercise.

I am using something like that these days, but had to remove the arm rests , they where hurting neck and shoulders when i was reading WBF on my iPad in my lap during listening sessions  Being able to sway with the music against the recliner spring is a nice feature too, had to grease that spring twice already :)

I like the chair to stay planted, so I will not use wheels. I don't really use a foot rest anyway.

If you have thick carpet under the seating area, the wheels won't move unless you are purposely moving the chair, and i dance around in my chair quite a bit !

Audiophiles really shouldn't attempt to dance. Leave that to real music lovers. We'd get too obsessed about our shoes, the floor, sequins and feather boas.

If you have to dress up to dance you probably can’t dance already...
