Taiko Audio SGM Extreme : the Crème de la Crème

Or, delete/uninstall Roon from the server, like I did years ago. Glad we all can choose how our Extreme sounds best.
This Is Another Valid Option...

How do you know Roon doesn’t sound best if you can’t hear it?

For the longest time I preferred the sound of XDMS over Roon but after the router and switch combo was installed I now prefer Roon. Of course, that is always subject to change since XDMS is changing and the NSM version will eventually be available.

How do you know I can't hear it? I install it every time I want to compare it with XDMS. Since now, I always end it up to uninstall it. But, my experience is that my Extreme and XDMS, in my system, in my room, with this ears sounds better if Roon isn't installed at all. I believe NSM will be a big step up in SQ over we have now.

When you said "like I did years ago" I did not assume you continue to install and uninstall. My mistake.

I have no further info on this ATM, but we regard it as a high priority.

Further Roon updates could again cause issues, but not necessarily. It depends on a few circumstances.

I created a document (attached below) describing the issue along with steps to fix it after the fact, as well as a method to follow to prevent this from happening again during a next update. This is a circumvention and not a full solution, but we are working on that.

The steps involved are certainly "doable" for someone familiar with fairly common Windows processes such as Task Manager. But if the descriptions do not make sense, please contact us to carry out the procedure for you.
I followed the steps indicated in the document, until I got to: run the Roon Server Icon on the desktop, then it gave “Fatal Error”. It really is very “fun”

@Armsan
when you are doing your Roon listening vs. xdms, do you notice any change in xdms sound before/after uninstalling roon?

That is “Roon” as in the user interface. The document refers to “Roon server”.

The user interface cannot run without a graphics card supporting a higher level of Open GL which is not in the Extreme. The Extreme makes use of the VGA functionality of the Aspeed 2500 controller used on server boards which is very basic in functionality and only supports up to OpenGL 1.1.

The Roon user interface was never installed on the Extreme before but Roon no longer a separate installer for just the server. So you now get both.

Thank you .
two more questions related to that .

What rj45 cables you use ( brand , connectors , cat ?)

if you go rj45 from U DMP are you connecting this cable to the DMP inbulid switch ( 4 ports)
OR you get out from a swich conncted to DMP router ?
OR last option is to exit from SFP with Sfp to RJ45 adapter?

Nothing specific, just something which is in reach, standard unbranded UTP cables.

Direct from DMP.

NEVER!!!!! lol
LOL!!! The captain always goes down with the ship! The only reason why I suggested that, was because of the toggling situation. When the next Roon update surfaces we will see if things respond properly. Up to recently I think many, BLINDLY, would have a difficult time distinguishing between Roon/XDMS. Or would prefer Roon. The Switch/NIC had a huge positive on Roon. Some do have "better" hearing than others. Emile indicated 1353 should only get better. Now with the latest Roon Build (I hate even saying Build now) XDMS has much more airiness and sounds less congested. I listened for 6 hours with XDMS yesterday today I'm doing Roon...The sacrifices we make...

Another option especially if Emile's prediction comes to fruition in regards to 1353 or subsequent builds becoming more refined. DELETE XDMS....
Not going to ever happen at my end

The suggestion to delete/remove XDMS was only meant for people who PREFER ROON and have XDMS installed but don't use it. BECAUSE OF THE TOGGLING SITUATION...

It’s not a big problem, roonserver.exe was just changed due to the overhaul Roon did on their installer. There are alternative ways to implement toggle functionality.

Thank You for shedding more light into this...

Exactly, here the noise floor goes down and the music increases its sense of flowing.

Can the Taiko team explain why uninstalling Roon can have an effect on XDMS?
