John, when you feel like trying to fix this it should be pretty straightforward. On the Extreme you need to uninstall anything related to Roon and then install RoonServer. It really shouldn’t be complicated.

Roon was set to launch as startup from Extreme Taskbar. When you also have XDMS installed and use it, Roon must NOT be set to start automatically. When on manual, it will enable using the toggle in the XDMS app. Christiaan changed this and restarted from the Extreme Server...I imagine this was why my SQ was messed up in Roon? Correct, no modem, fiber plugs directly into the DMP.

The varying rj45 lengths is because of me sometimes changing the location of the router for experimental purposes. The in wall rj45 cable length is 7 meters, and I use 2, 7 or 15 meter rj45 (extension) cables to the router depending on its physical location.

It looks like the key for top performance is in what you have.
I did not try very long cables between the routers.
Those were always 3- 5 m max.
will experiment with much longer runs as well.

but the real reason for top class sound is bps you use and top level room accoustics.

According to what's on my Extreme, I am running build 1311 and I haven't upgraded. That's all I know.

I am running 1352 on the app and 1311 on the Extreme. Works fine.

Since the update Roon/XDMS are not functioning apart from each other. When you toggle to Roon it should be highlighted in Green, no longer the case. When you are in Roon you shouldn't be able to access XDMS, no longer the case. My default setting is XDMS if you do a soft reboot it should resort to XDMS, no longer the case. I'm wondering if the conflicting nature was causing the horrible SQ. I'm in XDMS now and sounding great! But I no longer can access Roon!

You need to get that sorted out. I got up at 4am and Christiaan got me situated. While that was occurring I was getting terrible SQ in Roon. I guess because both apps were open at the same time??

Is this the same as when you put three tonearms and cartridges on to the same record, and the phonostage goes ballistic?

just to be extra careful, if you have never run roon, is there any concern for xdms-only users with all this roon update mishegas?
