Taiko Audio SGM Extreme : the Crème de la Crème

Roy turned me on two the Monoprice SlimRun. At the price and the return policy, it was a no brainer to try (I definitely have a bias for optical isolation). For me 90% of the benefit has been the freedom to place servers and DACs wherever I want them.

When I first tried with the Extreme, I found that I needed to power the Monoprice SlimRun with a LPS 1.2 to get to a happy place. Externally powering the Monoprice is a must for me.

On my to do list is to hack up a SlimRun to power the DAC side of the cable directly (get out a drill and soldering iron and put a DC connector on that end). TBD what lift there may be, but right now Vbus DC power is running 30' along a very thin wire embedded in the SlimRun cable. Getting true galvanic isolation and shortening the DC distance with better cabling should net to the positive, but the proof of the pudding will be in the tasting.

There are other optical USB solutions as well. I have not had a chance to spend time with them, so I can't say how they stack up to the SlimRun.

I heard that the two most critical components in fantastic sounding gear was
1- the designer's inspiration
2- the strength of the shipping cartons Lol
Alsyvox scores a Ten on both counts.

Jeez Louise, how big is your listening space Emile?

You don't need all that big of a space for Caravaggio. I could fit them in my 18' wide room, but I have too many other speakers in the way or I would be doing the Caravaggio's as well.

Don't forget the Alsyvox does not produce energy sideways just front and rear so the bass panels can get really close to the side walls.

The good thing with the Caravaggio is that you can do just two panels to start and add the second set of bass panels later.

In the meantime I will live vicariously through Emile:)

And whilst Emile enjoyed the arrival of a Caravaggio...I am now enjoying an Extreme version of his labour.

Initial impressions...well frankly you've all said it before...;)
