Taiko Audio SGM Extreme : the Crème de la Crème

I hadn't experienced a troll infestation in so long, my troll antibodies had waned. This is why it's taken me a few days to take action.

Of course, my innate immune system immediately flagged his posts as troll-y, and my cytotoxic T-cells limited the damage (so - no elevated heart rate and blood pressure, no screaming at screen).

But once my memory B-cells produced enough antibodies, action could be taken - I put the troll on my ignore list.

Everyone's an immunologist now!

There are 100+ very happy Extreme owners that read or participate in this thread. Everyone loves their Extreme and the latest news from Emile today will bring more happiness to all of these Extreme owners/users. It was GREAT NEWS!!!!!!!!!

I am very surprised that the moderators are letting this troll/Wadax fan boy to come into this thread with his nonsensical attacks and have ruined a stunningly great announcement that was made by Emile today.

Moderators, please wake up and at least ban this troll from this thread. He has never once contributed one positive comment in this thread. Although if you go back over the last two years, he has tried to disrupt the Extreme synergy that exists by the Extreme/Taiko community on many different occasions.

You don't see any of the happy Extreme users going into the Wadax thread and trolling just for the fun of it.

It's disappointing that this meaningless trolling is allowed to happen in this thread and definitely brings the Wadax name down several notches in the type of company that many people would choose to be associated with, regardless of how good the product might be, with representation from Wadax being presented in this manner.

My thoughts exactly. If I were one of the Wadax guys, I’d be embarrassed to have my brand continually associated with him on this forum.

Is the OS update applicable to SGM EVO too ?

Hi @rocco1113 ,

No it's not. Our current line of development is centred around the use of dual "professional" Intel Xeon CPUs. The SGM EVO utilized a consumer level i7 CPU which does not support many of the features we make use of today. There is no further development for the SGM EVO, we can offer XDMS to SGM EVO users when it launches but that is about it. Apart from it lacking support for advanced CPU instruction sets there are very few left in the field, somewhere between 5 and 10, which would make further development considerable more expensive for each unit then to trade it in towards the current Extreme model, which most of it's original owners have done. Any original owner will receive their full purchasing price back upon trade in.

Thanks for your prompt reply. I look forward to the launch of XDMS in the near future. All the best.

Just a curious question, My Playback Design Dream Series Streamer uses a propriety Fibre Connection from Streamer to DAC, I find this superior to USB Overall better sounding,

Is the Taiko able to be modded to do the same?

Hi @Phantom-Audio ,

The fact that this is a proprietary technology probably means no. What it would take is Playback Designs to either share the technology used and us designing a PCIe card being able to utilize that technology, or Playback Designs to design something generally useable by other manufacturers to fit as an output in their transports. This is probably not in their best interest as that interface will give their transports an edge versus transports from other manufacturers.

Wil, that's exactly my point...ongoing upgrades are hardly an inconvenience since the "stock" option is so impressive to start, everything subsequent is an advance. Then again, waiting months for a mod or repair to be done after an item sent back, that's wholly frustrating.
Nothing in Emile's method compares.
That's why I find the criticism so baffling.
yes totally agree - there is absolutely no necessity to respond to such people since they do not know the product and try to shuffle around problems which they see everywhere...don't give enregy to this - the thread here is on a totally different supportive and enjoying level - its good to keep it clean...

Thank you for reporting, the mayority of the evidence is indeed pointing towards the router / modem / ISP. A solution is in the works, though you don’t appear to be in need of one :)
I am in for the ET - Router - upgrade please put me on the list - especially with using Roon too...makes sense since Emile makes sense to me!

Hi Bob,

I'm going to chime in here with a public response as this all is causing an overload in e-mail and text traffic, hope you don't mind.

The following is strictly my personal opinion.

To everyone asking if we can have @Stereophonic banned being a board sponsor, no we cannot. What's Best Forum moderation is not "for sale". Morally, I am personally against banning somebody for expressing their opinion. With that said, there is a difference between expressing your opinion and "flaming" or "trolling". As a manufacturer actively participating on these forums I do feel this kind of repetitive behaviour to be an unwelcome waste of my time and resources. Further to this, this kind of behaviour is exactly what shies some manufacturers away from forum participation which is a shame, as this medium can provide a unique two-way line of communication between manufacturers and customers.

Addressing the apparent topic of @Stereophonic 's dismay which appears to be centred around a notion of competition of some kind between the Wadax and Taiko Audio servers, these are not competing products. The Wadax Reference server has been designed to work optimally with the Wadax Reference DAC, using a proprietary interface to overcome the limitations of a generic / universal interface. This is a good idea and can deliver improved, and perhaps more important, consistent performance. Much akin to us designing a switch and/or even a router to provide more consistent performance, simply because you can design the whole to work optimally together. Perhaps the Wadax server even applies some form of pre-processing beneficial to the operation of their DAC. To me it's quite clear, if you own or intend to purchase the Wadax Reference DAC, you should probably add their accompanying Reference server. If you own a different brand DAC, take your pick out of the top ranked generic server choices.

Further to this, this kind of behaviour is exactly what shies some manufacturers away from forum participation which is a shame,
I must say after reading through some of these posts I can see why manufacture participation is very low.

Wow 100% original value when upgrading - that is exceptional/unheard of!

I was positively surprised to learn that MSB offers 90% trade-in but 100% - future safe also in the long-run perspective.

Sigh - I just got tracking for my Extreme, arriving on the 27th but now my dealear got covid (he is ok) -> delayed installation - excruciating!

It seems that Lampizator also redeems 100% for the purchase of the new Horizon

Is this new as I was told MSB gave 100% as you move up the line. Of course 90% isn't bad.

Hope I am not doing something bad now - but the trade-in value may be something that is combination of MSB's and local representative's policy -> this could explain the discrepancy (and no 90% is still good).

All this bru-ha-ha over a notice “hey fellas, we found something that’ll make your system sound even better” and “it is so good we’re rewriting our own code to take advantage and further improve the sound of our own program, so when its released you can expect yet another uptick in sound quality.”

The downside for users is what exactly? (Trolls, please don’t respond. Its a rhetorical question.)

To the Taiko team, I am pleased a new Extreme is resting comfortably in its new home, getting snuggled in.
