Gee, that's a hard review to ignore.Spoiler Alert: Hey Emile, congrats on TAS Golden Ear Award 2022! Postie just dropped the September issue here. Nice!
Fab, thanks for confirming, Evan!Christiaan,
This worked great. Thanks.

Is there any sonic benefit to removing the Startech fiber card if we’re not using it? Seems like less extra stuff might be better a priori.
A solid strategyI had planned on pulling mine once the ethernet card is released.
Interesting! I have never tried TAS. Have been quite happy with Roon since I received my Extreme in April…All, I feel a need to share my most recent upgrade...
Since the release of Taiko USB Driver (back in 2022-02) I have rather happily been using Roon together with Taiko's USB Driver - patiently waiting for XDMS like everyone else.
However, like most of you, I felt a need to scratch the upgrade itch. I decided it was time to re-explore TAS. Before 2022-02 I did try TAS and did not appreciate the UX much - after the release of the Taiko USB Driver and the subsequent SQ improvement it brought to Roon I was patiently waiting for the final SW solution, as explained in this great architectural diagram https://www.whatsbestforum.com/threads/taiko-audio-sgm-extreme-the-crème-de-la-crème.27433/post-707368 posted by @Taiko Audio
So, I bugged Taiko Support to help me get starting with TAS again - this was two days ago.
After some great assistance from @EuroDriver I was ready to try out TAS.
Since then I have been stuck in a listening loop...
The difference between latest Roon and TAS - both using Taiko's USB Driver is stupendous!
All my complaints on TAS UX are overshadowed by the sound!
Maybe I am the last user on the forum to switch to TAS - but in case I am not, do yourself a favor and switch to TAS and let your Extreme run free!
Let’s hear first impressions tomorrow. Do yiou have the Taiko USB Board in your ExtremeTAS is loaded on my system. Ed is enabling it tomorrow.
Yes I am using the Taiko USB board and 1.5m Intona Ultimate USB into my DAC. Will post my findings!Let’s hear first impressions tomorrow. Do yiou have the Taiko USB Board in your Extreme
The Eagle has landedTAS has been up and running. Before installing I kept asking myself how much better can TAS be than ROON? I assumed many of you were exaggerating a little. NO YOU WERE NOT!! Perhaps in some systems the difference is not so evident? ROON sounds veiled, Steve Z shared with me grayish which is actually spot on. TAS is so much more holographic. I can go on with the adjectives but I'll spare you guys. I've been involved in this game a long time and have had oodles of fun. With TAS a transformative light bulb should go off. This is an indicator of potential! Again TRANSFORMATIVE! I'm not only enjoying but imagining what this cat (Emile) can do and the boundaries he may be able to cross...John
You know how to get people to want to try it!This is an indicator of potential! Again TRANSFORMATIVE! I'm not only enjoying but imagining what this cat (Emile) can do and the boundaries he may be able to cross...John
XDMS will do it all and should relegate Roon to the waste basket. I haven't used Roon since the first alpha version of TAS. It's all about the music for me. Having seen glimpses of the XDMS platform put up as snippets by Ed and Emile (to drive us crazy) awaiting its release clearly suggests its platform has gone well beyond Roon. I hate the platform of TAS but when it comes down to SQ you just won't be clicking the button on the TAS app to start Roon and stop TAS. At least I haven't in many yearsYou know how to get people to want to try it!
Roon to browse our library.
XDMS to listen to it!
