Hmm, can’t say I’m a fan of this idea, Ed. It sounds very iTunes-like.

I organize my music folders in a systematic way, so I really prefer to have them scanned in situ and not moved.

Is it just me?

Fully understood and I share your point of view. For this use case, a full scan is needed. For those who want a quick scan of only added files, the particular folder scan as discussed is one option. We are looking at more elegant ways of doing this. The thing is that we don't want to have scan continuously listening in the background, for SQ reasons.

What happens is that files in the "New Music Folder" get scanned and then moved out of the new Music folder.

The process is not automatic, it only occurs after taping the [Import new items from the XXXX Folder]

This feature will be functional in the Beta

Ed, to which folder does the music get moved?

I also think this is a poor way to execute an incremental scan.

I would think the system would note when the last scan was done and add files based on their added date.

Hey guys - just wondered if anyone has had any issues connecting since the recent Alpha update? Everything seemed to be going ok but now my library seems to have disappeared and I can’t seem to connect to the Extreme - the player.config file seems in check so not sure what’s going on….

Some observations relating to the UI changes for this releases:

1 - The artist bucket names (first and last names in the bucket) do not align with the actual names that appear if you click on a bucket. For example, I click on a bucket that started with Dwight Yoakam and ends with Elvin Jones. The first artist listed is Yoakam but the last is Howard McGhee.

2 - I would prefer that the buckets are defined by letter ranges and not the actual names from one’s own list of artists. This would obviously result in some buckets having more names than others but I think it is much easier to navigate that way. For me, in TAS I always selected albums by first selecting the artist. So, this navigation is very important. I also hope there will be a favorites list for artists.

3 - What is the definition of “artist” from the meta data? It doesn’t seem to be either “artist” or “album artist”. I think ultimately one should be able to choose either but if there is only 1 then I think it should be “album artist.”

Did you go back to the settings page and connected to the Extreme again? With each new release you have to type in the Extreme IP address.

All sorted - was due to changing DAC’s so all good…Ed was able to sort very quickly. Thanks for the suggestion anyway…

My XDMS BUG/feature report:
1. Support for WAV files over 2GB, aka the PGGB issue
2. Qobuz favorites (tracks, releases) in last added order
3. Some folders do not display tracks in correct order of TRACK tags

5. Rescanning entire library every time new content is added takes too long.

For me #2 above is most important. Also for Tidal as well as Qobuz.

Re your point 1: Noted, we will look into this.

Re your point 2: We have opted for batches of 200 because we want to hold 200 items in each bucket regardless of library size.

Ed says it is an API issue and that this will be resolved soon. I agree with dminches suggestions as well

For 3) I will supply a link to some examples today.

I also found — and will upload — a DXD flac file that demonstrates the “PGGB” issue, which of course had nothing to do with PGGB, and everything to do with file length.

In this regard, is it not possible to implement the feature as it was in LMS: scan the existing music folder only for new additions?

I agree that a continuous scan would be bad. The above should be a user initiated action.

Please trust that this aspect is on the list to improve/enhance. We are entertaining alternative methods for scanning but so far lack the time to implement them.

well for a change of pace and to disregard the ever evolving platform and interface how about we talk about the music. That to me is where this is all heading and the platform will develop over time.

I remain absolutely gobsmacked as to the SQ of XDMS. I have yet to play a file that sounds anything but beyond any digital I have ever heard in my system.

My bet is Ed and Christiaan are tackling the issues on a day by day basis. The pie in the sky was Emile's comment to me last week when we were talking about XDMS and as great as it is he told me has made some discoveries that will make XDMS even better over the coming months

Plus the roll out of XDMS has taken Ed out of the daily coding process it seems while he does every request for XDMS installation. I am certain that this too has slowed the coding process considerably

Ed was doing the actual coding? I thought they had a team for that.

Having users test an alpha version can actually speed up the process since there is now a group of us finding issues.

I bet they are aware of the issues. What we have been reading today seems to be more suggestions and requests than bugs

Some suggestions, some bugs like the artist end points not aligning with the actual artists. I have done a lot of software development. There is value in having more testers.
