Covid 19 vs 2009 N1H1 which was devastating, how come we had no closures? This is according to CDC;
"CDC estimated there were 60.8 million cases (range: 43.3-89.3 million), 274,304 hospitalizations (range: 195,086-402,719), and 12,469 deaths (range: 8868-18,306) in the United States due to the (H1N1)pdm09 virus. Additionally, CDC estimated that 151,700-575,400 people worldwide died from (H1N1)pdm09 virus infection during the first year the virus circulated..."
In the spirit of this being the "chill" thread, and the very real possibility that we shared cave dwellings with bats for thousands of years, I thought I would share this clever observation from a clearly intelligent ancestor. Following her advice will make some of my choices after this crisis, so much simpler. This is further evidence, or rather proves once again, that woman have all the answers:
I think its because of the death rate .
I read its some where in the line of the spanish flu around 2.5 %.
Last thing i want to say about the origin of the virus.
There needs to be an investigation whether the safety measures of this lab were /are up to standard .
China is a big country and you dont have to be a conspiracy theorist to know it is a bit odd that a new bat virus originated in this city where the lab is situated which specialises in this kind of thing
China owes it to the rest of the world to have an inspection / control done of this facility by independant inspectors.
For the future
*BREAKING NEWS*
Boris in intensive care
Stable, but still maintaining a high temperature.
Hoping that a few days of r'n'r, fully attended to, kept away from work stress, will get him thru.
Tbh, Brits are self isolating, deaths are down three days running, incl a 65% drop from yday's figure, and new infections have dropped again after a spike yday. There's nothing that he can do more on that front, but we need coordinating on getting these ventilators and PPE in, getting mass testing/track and trace going, and sorting our exit strategy.
As an aside and for the sake of some light humor at this moment I thought I would post my favorite Churchill quote with the history of it to follow
'My dear you are ugly, but tomorrow I shall be sober and you will still be ugly”
history's funniest insults with a famous jibe directed at either the socialist MP Bessie Braddock or the Conservative Lady Astor, the first female MP (depending on which version of the story you hear).
When accused by one of them of being 'disgustingly drunk' the Conservative Prime Minister responded: 'My dear, you are ugly, and what’s more, you are disgustingly ugly. But tomorrow I shall be sober and you will still be disgustingly ugly.'
It's unclear which of the two politicians Churchill directed his comment at - and there is even debate over whether he said it at all.
Churchill quotation expert Richard Langworth claims that one of the Prime Minister's bodyguards confirmed the exchange had taken place with Bessie Braddock after the MP had said: "Winston, you are drunk, and what’s more you are disgustingly drunk."
sorry for the off topic but Winston C has always for me been one of the great persons who helped shape the history of the 20 th century
Too early to cheer; we are talking weekend numbers here. Other countries have shown to be underreporting during those days and then adjusting the days thereafter showing a spike again...
Also, comparing statistics is extremely hard:
discrepancy between countries exist in their official count of the deaths from the Covid19. Some only count the ones that died in a hospital, some count the ones that only died in ICU, other count all deads assumed to be related to covid, some only report the deaths that have been tested for covid previously, some don't count the deaths in elderly or private homes (although related to Covid)...
And the least trustworthy statistic is the number of infections: who gets tested varies a LOT, and therefore so do the infection levels.
From the biggest hospital in Belgium (and one of biggest in Europe): 75% of patients with Covid that end up in ICU 'suffer' obesitas... a scary correlation (doesnt affect me luckily)
Are you simply assuming on your own "that means a ventilator in ICU," or have you seen a report from a generally reliable news source reporting this as a fact?
