Time For Everyone's Oscar Predictions

As we do every year, we start a thread for everyone to list the favorites in the top 6 categories.

As an aside I fund all the buzz about Boyhood to be just that. It was just a so so story but filmed over 12 years in the life of this boy. Otherwise for me it was nothing more than just a story of 2 kids growing up in a single parent family

Overall I still feel the best movie I've seen this year was Whiplash. JK Simmons was superb in the role. Had he been nominated for best actor IMO he would have won in this category. Having said that I am going with the following as my predictions

Best Picture........Birdman

Best Director......Alejandro González Iñárritu, Birdman

Best Actor..........Michael Keaton, Birdman

Best Actress........ Julianne Moore, Still Alice

Best Supporting Actor...... JK Simmons, Whiplash

Best Supporting Actress....Patricia Arquette, Boyhood

The movies were so tepid this year, I can't summon up the enthusiasm to participate...even at our Oscar party this evening.

My wife told me to "get the music room ready" because many of our guests are pretty ambivalent about the show. Interested to see how NPH does hosting.

I agree with your picks...save for Best Actor. I think Eddie Redmayne will get the nod.

Moore, Simmons, and Arquette are as big a locks as I can remember in a long time.

Here is my list. Will win plus who I think should win in BOLD

Best Picture........Will win Birdman Should Win Selma

Best Director......Will win Linklater Should Win Wes Anderson

Best Actor..........Will Win Eddie Redmayne Should Win Redmayne

Best Actress........ Julianne Moore, Still Alice Should Win Moore

Best Supporting Actor...... Will Win JK Simmons, Whiplash Should Win Simmons

Best Supporting Actress....Will Win Patricia Arquette, Boyhood Should Win Streep

This will be the least competitive Oscars in years. Simmons, Arquette, Moore, Redmayne, Birdman Director and Picture.

Finally saw Birdman- it is acting olympics and a Hollywood love for itself movie, but pretty good. Beats Boyhood, but still only a B+ imo. Its Death of a Salesman in hollywood. He def deserves Director.

Some thoughts.......

Neil Patrick Harris seems to get his face everywhere as the consummate host. IMO I found him to be the second worst host closely behind Ann Hathaway/James Franco in 2011 and Letterman in 1995.

Sure wish Billy Crystal would reconsider. Only funny thing (if that) last night was his entering the stage wearing his tidy widy's a la Birdman and Times Square

The scuttle butt on the streets as to the Redmayne victory was that he wanted it more and put on an extensive PR campaign amongst his peers extolling them to vote for him. This plus the fact that he is a young, handsome and smoothly polished talker as compared to Michael Keaton who in his Red Carpet interviews yesterday reminded me of a similar washed up star who got his 15 minutes of fame once again, in Mickey Rourke in 2007 when he was nominated for Best Actor in the Wrestler. Neither Keaton or Rourke had that polished bit of charm that Hollywood associates with a star. Tough to watch Keaton being interviewed as he was gnawing on chewing gum and he couldn't stand still as he equated last night to the Super Bowl. I first remember seeing Eddie Redmayne playing Tom Worker in the mini series of one of my favorite books, The Pillars Of The Earth. He is an excellent actor. Bear in mind that in the last one hour of the Imitation Game, he had no script but merely pure acting.

Good comparison between Keaton and Rourke- I agree, very similar situations. also can be said Keaton (who I thought was great) was simply playing himself. although playing a famous person with ALS where for half of his life he couldn't speak is a pretty tough role. That reminds me of My Left Foot back in the day...

I liked NPH. He wasnt the best, but better than average. He had some funny, uncomfortable moments which i like.

The worst part for me was the 10 minute long In Memoriam, which is sad as its usually the best. Also, the acceptance speeches in general were bad and hollywood at its worst- all the suicide, womens rights, etc. Good thing JK Simmons had the best one early on.

Julie Andrews was amazing as was the Selma song.

Did you notice that they omitted Joan Rivers from the In Memoriam tribute

FWIW I thought Lady Gaga was superb. So good in fact I decided to get tickets to see her with Tony Bennett in may at The Hollywood Bowl

As for NPH, he did nothing for me

Finally it is interesting to see how the face(s) of Hollywood has changed where youth rules supreme This easily could have been the reason that Michael Keaton didn't win

I didn't think Joan Rivers should have been mentioned she really had nothing to do with movies other than to comment on them.

I was stunned how good Lady Gaga was. I have never been able to listen to her recordings but she knocked it out the park last night. Her performance along with "Glory" performed by Common and John Legend were two of the better Oscar performances in years.

I agree but somewhere with all of the awards be it Golden Globes, SAG, Oscars etc some remembrance IMO was warranted

Just got my tickets to see Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett at the Hollywood Bowl. He must be almost 60 years older than her

Sadly, the Lady Gaga tribute juxtaposed with Julie Andrews only reinforced what a sad lot of movies were nominated this year. Take a look at the nominees from 1965: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/38th_Academy_Awards

Dr. Zhivago didn't win best picture; nor did Julie Andrews win best actress!

Wow...fantastic...all correct but Best Director! Nicely done!!!

Actually he missed Best Director which was Alejandro González Iñárritu (which I got but missed Eddie Redmayne)

Lady gaga does nothing for me. I will admit she is very talented.not my cup of tea. Overall the oscars as usual has too much puke liberal content for me to digest...lol

Jim

I beg to differ about Joan Rivers. A quick search shows her to have been in over 30 film productions either in an acting role or in an animated role as voice over.

I can't watch any of the awards programs.

It's kind of like a baseball game, way too much waiting around for something germane or important to happen.

I think you got a little confused here...Eddie Redmayne is in "The theory of everything" and not in " Imitation game". It is my current fave actor: Benedict Cumberbatch- who stars in "Imitation Game". BTW, my current fave TV show is " Sherlock" also starring Benedict. I think he makes a SUPER Sherlock Holmes. I agree that Neil Patrick Harris was pretty bad; problem is there aren't too many good candidates in his age group.
