Time spent blogging on WBF and ROI

A big sincere THANKS to Steve, Amir and the moderators for running the website - there is some incredible stuff I have learned over the years. It's a tough job, and they do it for free, therefore they all deserve a round of applause. I am actually glad I missed all the "fun" this past weekend, and let it be known I had an amazing wine instead, a 1995 Cheval Blanc - is that an objective or subjective opinion :D

I agree Tom

In fact Tim, IIRC you were banned several months ago for three days for stirring up crap. Same way you as an objectivist was temporarily banned so also are subjectivists banned for similar acts

I remember it well. In fact, it was precisely this kind of crap. We were talking about crossing thte line from discussion into personal attacks. I made the same case I've made here today, that the line is crosse repeatedly by the same people and yet those people are still here. I went on to say that while I try to refrain from personal attacks, if I fit that description myself, I should be banned. And so you did.

Meanwhile, the people I was talking about then continue the same behavior... Myself included? I know what I do here, and I understand that, yes, it may stir the crap of personal attacks, but it is not of the crap of personal attacks. I think it is a pretty important distinction, personally, but if you think expressing very strong opinions that inspire personal attacks is the same as the personal attacks themselves, I'll voluntarily bow out of participation.

don't get your feathers ruffled Tim. As you well know I selected you to be a moderator here because of your views and position. I felt it was necessary to balance the views here at WBF and having a mod such as yourself was for me an important thing to bring to fruition. So even though we might clash Tim, I do value y0our opinions. As to the reported posts you forwarded a few days ago I have dealt with that and am hoping that the offender will get the message as he too is a valued member here, but just sitting on the other side of the fence

Steve, this is the best online audio forum I've ever frequented because of its balance. And while I don't believe I indulge in the personal attacks that come up here frequently, I know my POV and the style with which I deliver it is a red flag to the bulls. I would never call anyone stupid, but my answers are sometimes calculated to make their positions look stupid. And honestly? That's probably not going to change. If I thought my walking away would stop the poo-slinging and still preserve the balance, I would gladly withdraw. No martyrdom requested nor feathers ruffled, just a practical decision that would clearly be the best thing for the board. But I don't think it would achieve that result. I think I'd have to take a handful of folks with me to bring peace to the neighborhood and keep balance from being shouted down. And I don't have that power.

Actually you did have the power. That's why I made you a mod. You resigned. Having said that I truly understand your position and still appreciate it here. You do balance the scale here. As to your other concerns they are indeed real and these have been discussed amongst mods and we will be acting swiftly on all reported posts. Not only warnings will be issued but so also temporary bans. We do strive to maintain equality here Tim. That's what gets us into trouble because there us always one side or the other crying foul.

I'm sure the whining and crying behind the scenes is deafening at times. I'll try my best to keep myself to reporting clear violations of the rules. But I'm going to do more of it, if for no other reason than it helps me remember not to cross that line myself. Thanks.

I appreciate that on both counts Tim. We will be having a hard look at all reported posts.

Have you given any thought to adding one or two regular Mods to assist the Super Mods/Admins?

We have but if you guys have been noticing that for the past 3 weeks there has been no spam on the board. This is due to our use of Spam-O-Matic which does most of the work for us. In fact if you scroll to the bottom of our home page you will see the statistics if spammers that were blocked at the front door or auto moderated if they got through the door. As a result we have blasted approximately 118 spammers in that time. This frees up time for us to pay more attention to reported posts.

Wow. I haven't been on in a while but find this thread particularly disturbing. I didn't realize so many found it so upsetting at various times. Personally, I love the diversity and breadth of opinions. I have been educated as well as criticized and I think I've benefited as a result of both. I do think it's mandatory to be respectful even when vehement disagreement and passions come into play. I admit, when things get to point of excessively boring or obnoxious on a specific issue, I am reminded that nobody is holding a gun to my head to participate, so I kindly demur and take a time out. I also didn't realize how much "damage control" is done behind the scenes by the moderators. I feel bad that members put you (moderators) in such an awkward position more often than I realized. I don't know exactly what prescription Steve has to offer, but this one works pretty well for me when indicated. (Hope it passes the censors who I'm counting on to have a sense of humor).

Marty

I want one of those little pills each day I'm at your house in a few weeks.

Yes, I have noticed those stats and the reduction of daily spam posts when I'm on in the middle of the night. It's a great tool and an essential one.

Several members here are Moderators or Super Moderators elsewhere and you should see some of the posts that get reported. It borders on the freagin' ridiculous and childish many more times than you can imagine, but they need to be addressed. Every member deserves the right to an answer.

"What's Best Forum (WBF Forum) The friendliest place to find the best in audio, video, music, movies, television, health, sports and much more?"

I think this forum is a wonderful source of information.

Unfortunately, for those who are really seeking the best in audio, this forum is loaded with folks that have never heard and are not pursuing the "best," but feel the need to comment on things they have never heard.
