What's going on with the US stock market lately?

I don’t think I ever disagreed with anyone as much as I disagree with your commentary. Lol.

Not the place to debate your commentary as it is just your opinion but I will answer by disagreeing with everyone of your assumptions with my own.

From my perch The States have been victimized economically by globalists and socialists/communists and while those of us with nice portfolios are happy there is a reason why wages have been stagnant, wealth disparity higher than ever (most ever under Obama) and we have become an ever increasing welfare state.

Blaming trade for the welfare state makes no sense. I know you want to get revenge on China for being a bad actor, but we constantly put up with many countries in the world doing bad things so we can ultimately benefit. Saudi Arabia has been a bad actor. Israel has been a bad actor. Turkey has been a bad actor. Russia continues to be a bad actor. on and on....

Other countries have kept up with the technology treadmill by providing education and training for the jobs of the 21st century in a developed country, the US has not. Instead, our higher education has become unreachable by many and others are burdened with huge college loans that take 30 years to pay off.

It's education that is lacking in this country. Sports are a much higher priority, both in schools and professional. Schools will cut music and art long before they cut football. Universities cannot survive anymore without the ticket sales to their games. It's the values in this country that are screwed-up. I long for the days when Albert Einstein was the hero of the day and role models were not rappers. When the space race motivated both women and men to get into science and math careers.

Not everyone can get higher education, but trade schools are the answer and they need to be publicly funded. Do this rather than funding welfare and a minimum income.

And finally, this notion that immigrants, particularly those coming from Mexico and South America are taking jobs from American citizens is ridiculous. We need immigrants badly in this country to pay for Medicare and Social Security as the population ages. We need immigrants to clean toilets, do housekeeping for hotels and to pick many crops. We are cutting our own throat by limiting immigration.

Anyone that thinks we are on the right path in this country is delusional IMO. We are screwing ourselves on the National Debt, the climate, our education system, immigration, our foreign allies, and now the trade wars. All for a misguided sense of optimism and security and $1K per year tax reduction for the average rural citizen.

Like I said, these things will all bite us in the a**.

Debating freedom of press/expression with a person that lives in a repressive communist feudal society. Oh the irony.

At least he is aware that something is not right. Maybe can do something about it someday. It's his country, so he's not leaving.

Many North Koreans are oblivious I think.

Many southerners and rural people in the US are also oblivious to propaganda.

I just got up to change the record and thought about the irony: I'm debating freedom of the press in the USA with a person that lives in a repressive society without said freedom. It's like arguing women's rights with a person that lives in Saudi Arabia.

I'l like to meet you sometime Opus, but I'm sure if their would be room for you, I and your enormous balls.

Here's a cool report from Reporter Without Borders. Check it out if your browser doesn't block it.

IMO, the US has no leg to stand on when debating freedom of the press. The press in the US has been under attack for 18 months. The US administration would be happy as clams if there was a state media like in China and pictures of our fearless leader on every street corner like in North Korea. They even said so.

I can't edit my message. It was an answer to NorthStar p 40.

I would love to get your feedback from France. Canada and France are good friends and allies to Americans. People and allies matter, in times of war and peace as in times of business turmoil and harmony.

Your statement is so utterly incorrect I honestly find it laughable. The press in the US has never been more free or more powerful. The free press and whistleblowers uncovered and shared the child separations at the border.

Trump might be attacking the free press, but he has had zero success. Readership of news papers (WSJ, Washington Post, NY Times, etc always) have never been higher.

Twitter is the new news media, for everything, including the stock market.

Fake news Facebook and fake news Instagram and fake news Linkedin and fake news Twitter and fake news YouTube and fake news many many many TV channels and fake news many social media and fake news the stock market, including bitcoin and Tesla.

Speaking of Tesla, have you read the latest on that big tent in the parking lot?
If Tesla wants to deliver and increase their stock share's value they need real factories, not tents.
Jeez, Elon is going further into space.

I have absolutely nothing against American people, I have American friends, but against US government foreign politic.
The US government has always helped the hardest dictatorship in South America in the past while promoting democracy in the world.
In France we have a lot of Muslims people an important part of them claims that the coran is above the French constitution. It's the reason why in Europe a lot of people thinks that democracy as we understand it is not the best purpose for the world and S Hussein or El Assad are good to govern people which dream to kill everybody not thinking as them.
The problem with US foreign policy is that it works against American interest as alliance with Saudi Arabia, Israel...
In fact American people are generally not interested by foreign politic so pressure group wins.

Gimme control of your natural resources , in return we give you ¨ democracy ¨ lol .

That's a good line, a true line...democracy in exchange of your precious commodity stock.
It doesn't work anymore, they saw the bluff, now they want gold so that they can buy water.

The oil ...

I just couldn't escape this film's message.

I have never seen the market fall out of bed....when oil is advancing. Oil looks to have started the final leg up. If the Dow can hold up this week...probably till early August. After that the cycles probably turn down into October. With Trump though who knows...the Globalists are pissed.

I have absolutely nothing against American people, I have American friends, ...

My Dad was in the steel business all his life, dealing with Americans in New York and other countries from abroad. My Dad was French Canadian.
I worked for American companies (American owners) as a kid; tobacco industry, textile industry, car tire industry, beer industry, ... Some of my best friends are . . . the Americans. I travelled through the entire east and west coast of the USA, I've seen beautiful country sides and met friendly and generous Americans.
I invest in American companies, among other countries, since I was twenty years old and for the next forty years plus.

Good economics are from good relationships, mutual fair exchanges/trades, since the very beginning of Earth...humans.

The world is interested in the business deals in Japan, China, Russia, Europe, Saudi Arabia, Africa and America. We all are, and we take good care of our stocks. People come first. The stock market simply react to people's interests. It's we who decide what's goes up and what comes down.
It's we who have the power to make things better for ourselves, and everyone else.

We are not doing too bad everything else considered. It could be much much worst.
But yes, a positive attitude towards a bright outlook goes a long way in bringing real benefits to all.
The art of the deal ...

“A really efficient totalitarian state would be one in which the all-powerful executive of political bosses and their army of managers control a population of slaves who do not have to be coerced, because they love their servitude.”

Some perspective on the 'trade war with China' from Paul Craig Roberts :

When are America’s global corporations and Wall Street going to sit down with President Trump and explain to him that his trade war is not with China but with them? The biggest chunk of America’s trade deficit with China is the offshored production of America’s global corporations. When the corporations bring the products that they produce in China to the US consumer market, the products are classified as imports from China.
