About 18 months ago in the wake of the UK Brexit referendum I said I would believe in Brexit when it happened.
In the light of recent events in the UK ("turmoil") it seems apropriate to update investors.
The present Conservative government is a minority government sustained in office by the small Northern Ireland Democratic Unionist Party after May's failure to win an overall majority in last year's General Election. Since than the Conservatives have been struggling to resolve their own differences and have just lost their Brexit and Foreign secretaries as a result of Brexit policy differences.
A White Paper due to be published today setting out the Brexit policy for negotiations with the EU has been delayed until next week.
It could well be irrelevant. Any deal with the EU will be opposed by enough Conservative MPs and the Labour and other parties to sink it. Parliament will not support a no deal departure from the EU and the most likely resultant scenario which would be supported by the EU would be an extension of the article 50 process. About 6000 lorries a day pass through the port of Dover and another 2000 plus from ports in Eire so the resultant chaos from a no deal Brexit is unthinkable. What happens then is more difficult to forecast but it is very difficult to see any UK/EU deal getting through Parliament
The general public is now bored and bewildered by it all so I am now even more encouraged in my previously stated position that I will believe in Brexit when it happens.

Barry I agree. The problem is the uncertainty. Hopefully they will realize the easy way out is a second referendum

Agreed. And now that the Brexit coalition has admired there will be minimal increases to the NHS and there is evidence of Russian meddling into the voting process, Brexit round two will fail miserably.

Don’t need a 2nd one, they can just revoke Article 50, it’s what Eu want, and negotiate new terms for remaining.

Easy peasy!

Why do our English friends here seem to have no issue with pro-EU English political elites ignoring the clear result of a valid public referendum?

It wasn’t valid imo due to misinformation and perhaps outside influence.
It was only a referendum to gauge public opinion and not binding.
Plus, most of the population are stupid.
See the parallels here?

I see parallels, sadly, but very likely not the ones you are thinking about.

Well Ron, as you can see, the Propagandist Progressives come out in force citing some nonsensical "interference" to try to invalidate what the people voted for. Kind of reminds me of the "useful idiots" right here in our country, where "they" use the same propaganda to try to de-legitimize the election of Trump.

I'm not sure why you would be surprised. This is how these anarchists play and how they have always played.

I don’t find anything in the article’s description of the report dispositive. It is merely a lot of “may haves” and assertions of intent, not proof of “stay” votes being cyber-hacked into “leave” votes.

I don’t share the view that voters are stupid. To me an unadulterated “leave” vote is indisputably a valid vote to leave.

Because it wasn't valid. Critical information for voters to make the decision was either intentionally or unintentionally omitted or blocked from voters. This is exactly what most of the voters that regretted voting for BREXIT said in the weeks after. This is the voters own words.

Hahaha! This proves way too much! Every vote against your preferred outcome is uninformed or invalid!

This is the increasingly common standard answer of people who refuse to accept the legitimacy of valid votes which don’t result in their preferred outcomes.

Hysterical. “Critical Information ..... blocked from voters”

The response of the left is always so predictable when they lose.

I would be surprised if the EU is still in existence in 10 years if they don’t change their ways.

Unfortunately for the left, the majority of the voters know EXACTLY what they are voting for.

Lots of nice people also voted for Hitler. Lots of propaganda was launched at them too. That makes it okay??

Oh Oh the Hitler analogy strikes again. Another predictable response. Lol.

That vote was the Germans’ original sin. It was a valid vote. Democracy places responsibility upon the voters.

Your posts prove to me that you do not believe in votes.

Why bother to practice democracy when totalitarians know better what is good for everyone?

Ron, are you participating in a political discussion on WBF?

Steve N. wrote: "Critical information for voters to make the decision was either intentionally or unintentionally omitted or blocked from voters." I agree with Steve N. in the sense that in another recent election one of the investigating agencies has been shown to be biased and did not pursue further investigation. We can only imagine what the popular vote might have been if the voters had in fact known even more.

Fortunately, voters are not stupid.
